Yup...time for a wiggle test. With the system running (and warmed up) wiggle all the electronics and connections you can. It may be a short or a loose connector. It can also be a cracked component. I have seen the coil do that among others. If it is a cracked component like the coil, it will usually get worse when the engine is hot. (because the plastic gets a little softer and mores more)

If you are loosing ALL items such as the dash lights / headlight / gauges and such, of course, it is not a coil as that would only affect spark to the engine. Then think ignition switch /wiring or The more detail on the symptoms the more we may be able to help narrow things down.

Gave it a tuneup, plugs wires and cap and all.
Still runs ruff and backfires when cold. Cuts out when going down road just like before.

The problem is, none of those things could have been the cause of your problem with cutting out the way you describe. That pretty much has to be an electrical issue (not ignition system) but the electrical system.
Check battery posts. If not clean/tight it can cause the cutting out. Again, check for loose wires/connections. bad ignition switch...etc.

Running rough and backfiring is a new symptom you did not describe before. Rick is correct, this issue (but not the " Like key was turned off") could be a sensor. It can also be a vacuum leak, TPS, coolant temp sensor or leaky intake or exhaust, among others.
