    2011 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON
    NONE
Hey, first time signing up with a forum,

I have a 2011 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon. I got it with 32,000 miles no modifications, but I wanted to put different tires on it and was wondering how big I can go without lifting it or making any modifications.

The size tires I have right now are 255/75/r17. I expect to keep the rim size the same and hopefully move up to a 35 inch tire I just don't know how think I can go without hitting my front bumper.

    Any information I would appreciate.

    Thanks for your time.

2.5" AEV Dual Sport lift, 35" Treadwright Guard Dogs, Black Rock Wheels, AEV Front & Rear Bumpers with Tire Carrier, Fuel Caddy 10 gal. Aux. fuel tank, Warn 9.5ti, 125' synthetic winch line, front axle skid, 20" LED light bar , Bilstein Shocks, steel steering skidplate,
33x10.5 will fit with stock wheels and fenders. It will rub a little on the swaybar at full turn of the steering wheel but nothing bad or damaging

Going to 35s will be a problem on a stock JKU. It WILL fit within the stock bumper but not much else. You would require wheel spacers or new wheels with deeper backspace. At stock suspension height, you would need to go to flat fenders or experience severe rub at full flex. You would need to trim about 1 inch off the rock rails. You may also need to trim the pinch seam (Trimming the rock rails and pinch seam need done for 35s, even with a lift.)

Unsolicited advice: If you want to go to 35s and keep things as stock as possible, consider a 2.5" puck lift. They are cheap, easy to install and leave pretty much everything else OEM. If you go this route make sure it is a kit with shock relocation brackets so you don't need to purchase new shocks. A 2" puck kit will make 33s fit better too.

    Good Luck and Wheel Safe!

I believe that you can squeeze 35s in a stock Rubi, but if you are running stock wheels you may rub on the control arm and/or sway bar at full turn. 1-1.5in spacers may stop that or you can get aftermarket wheels that have less backspace/more offset. If you run a highline fender (I like metal cloaks) you can run 37s on a stock Rubi, but you'll still need the spacers with the stock wheels or put up with a little rub every now and then. Check out Metal cloaks site they have pics of stock Rubis with big tires.

Sorry Peter....can't fit 35's under a stock rubi. You would still need that hi-fender kit or a lift (so not a stock rubi---just stock height). As well, you will need to cut .75 to 1" off the front of the rubi rails and on a 2011 you will also need to trim the pinch seam in the rear wheel wells. These trimmings need done even if you lift it.

Either way, thanks for being so active in helping others here. :)

Just met a guy yesterday with 35's on a stock rubi. Cut the fenders for clearance, but still rubbed in the front when turning.

    Nate's question was:

:annoyed: If you have modified it, it is not stock. :annoyed:

(NOTE: haha...those damn little emoticons work well in this case. hahaha)

Does hammering count as modifying? Haha

I know a trail guide that hammers the pinch welds back, because he spends so much time on the trails that the cut pinch welds when trimmed start to pull apart. He has tried to weld the cut ends, but they still separate. He has a new 2016 JK that he runs Teraflex 60s front and back, teraflex 2.5in shortarm lift kit with adjustable control arms. He extended both axels out 1.5 in. He runs 40s using bump stops to keep from mashing fenders. extra long fox shocks and he has some amazing drop and flex. I will post a pic when I can get home and find it.

Well, that depends on if someone has given me a snickers bar or not. lol

    Just for information:
The pinch seam on the 2011 (what the OP has) is quite different from that on the 2016. In 2013 they started manufacturing with a much smaller pinch seam that does not extend near as far into the path of 35" tires. It would be hard to hammer the older pinch seam back on the 07-12 models.

I'm a CJ guy at heart, but nothing compares to the JKU on the trails. I'm building a CJ6 to see how it does on the trails in comparison to the JKU.
