Chip away the rust bubbling under the paint to reveal the extent of the issue. Removal of the part could make it easier to sand off the rust, prime and rattle can the area. But I would make a repair attempt after protecting surrounding areas with painters tape. IMO the area is not super crucial to have a perfect paint match as it's partially covered by the light bracket(s).

 

After cleaning it up, if you are still worried about a color match, you can paint from the top of the bracket to the bottom of that panel (top of the lower fender. Do both sides and it will blend in a bit better.

You won't know until you get the part off. There is good advice above. A paint shop could match the repaired part or replacement part. Or any of the above choices is good. IMO I would replace both sides just to match. You will just have to way the cost and your time. Good luck

 

I'm dealing with the same shit on my rig. The whole bottom of my tailgate is pretty much gone. I been looking in all my local junk yards for one just for temporary till the smittybuilt heavy duty gate comes. I feel your pain brother!!

 

This is the only spot of rust besides a little frame witch is ganna get tooken care of Saturday hopfully there calling for 70s lol ya ok not in ny the way the weather is.

 

Lol Ohio is the exact same way. One minute it's a nice warm sunny day then the next minute it's gone to shit haha

 

Exactly it was like 50 last Saturday when I did my fenders and now it’s 22..

 

Man It seems like winter is gonna stick around till August.

 

More snow out here in the NE. I am so frickin ready for spring. As Billy said. 50 one day. 20 the next. Callin for almost 80 Saturday and upper 40s on Sunday. . I hate ya Mother Nature. Hahahaha. So lookin forward to warmer weather. .
