Starter trouble.

Jeep wouldn’t start. Jumped the old starter and it worked. Was told I needed a new starter. So I put a new one on and still won’t start. Now what ?? Ignition??

 

sounds like wiring - check the battery cables - both ends.
attached is diagram check fuses, and swap relay with a similar one for testing..
Be sure the trans is in P sometimes bumping shifter trying to move shifer to N will get it going...
A manual trans check clutch switch...

Screwdriver trick works. Other then that nothing

 

Passing the screwdriver test means looking for loose or poor connections plus the solenoid may be suspect

 

I'm just guessing but do you have a starter relay, and could that be it?

@Awrench ... understood but this offline challenging internet diagnosis + analysis + edukation takes me a bit to digest LOL

 

Take a multimeter and begin at the starter. Have someone turn the key and see if you are getting 12v to the starter solenoid. If not work your way back.
This happened to me recently and I was able to diagnose it on my lunch break as a sticky solenoid. I replaced the starter and it starts faster than it ever has before.......however you have already done that so I would not be surprised if you aren't getting 12 volts to the solenoid.


Relay in the Power Distribution Center (PDC): Pull out the relay and use your multimeter to make sure there is 12 volts on the receptacle for pin 30, even when the vehicle is off there should still be 12 volts here. When the key is turned to start there should also be 12 volts on the receptacle for pin 86, if not I would look at your ignition switch. Also if you have continuity to ground on pin 85 your NSS is good.

Neutral safety switch could be an issue: Try to start in N, you can also by pass the NSS by jumping the B and C wires as noted on the NSS connector under the hood on the passenger side by the oil dip stick. Still no start? move to something else. However, if you tested pin 85 as noted above you may be able to skip this step.

Ignition switch: Power into the switch should be on a Pink/Black wire and power out when in start position should be on a Yellow wire. Disconnect the switch and put your multimeter across those two contacts and turn the key, see if you have continuity. If not here is likely your problem. The ignition switch can be accessed by removing the bottom steering column cover.

 

My nss connector doesn’t say a or b. And I have no power to fuse 19 on the inside fuse box

 

Then look for the black and the black with yellow (or white) stripe and test those pins on the NSS, if it has continuity then it's good. Or test the receptacle for pin 85 on the starter relay for continuity.

No power to fuse 19, sounds like a faulty ignition switch to me. Test as noted above to verify.

fuse 19 junction box has 12v only when key in START.

how is fuse 10 in PDC...

check RELAY - swap with another like relay for testing.

move shifter to N or shake it to correct an bad connection...
