A friend of mine used a heat gun on his plastic, and it came out good. What that does, is bring the oils in the plastic back to the surface. Without maintaining the plastic after using the heat gun, they will fade again.

Yeah, think I'll put some cardboard on the parts I don't want heated.

Did your friend have theirs start to fade again? How long did it take to start fades after heat trestment?

I'm hearing 6-8 months but ymmv in your area as high temps, UV rays or rock salt happy areas can play a role. Might want to apply those back-to-black products regularly to prolong the finish

A friend did this to his TJ before he sold it. It looked a lot better. But I can't say how long it lasted.

He didn't tape anything off or take any special precautions. He started on low heat and stayed away from the paint initially. And he kept the heat gun moving. It didn't take much to bring the black back and was confident that the paint would be effected - and it wasn't. It's a pretty simple common sense project.

So heat treated the back fenders and back bumper today and it worked like a charm. Doing front fenders tomorrow.

Here are some pics. Last pic shows the difference between the from fender(not completed) and rear fender(already heat treated).

Great heat tx results on the fender! Try some back-to-black or whatever to keep the finish. Looks like the tail light guard needs some rattle canning too.

Lol, yeah it was on my list. Figured I'd get to it when I changed out the front bumper but since I needed to spray a couple other things from around the house got it done today along with the front fender heat treatment.

    Rattle canned!

That front bumper gonna be an eye sore for a week though until I change it out for the new one next weekend.

Thinking about heat treating it as well. Would only take me like 10-15min.....

Wow, what a difference - huge improvement. My vote would be - do the front!

Did front bumper today as I wouldn't last til the weekend with a mismatched bumper until I change it out.

Nice job on the bumper! Now I know you don't want those plastic bumpers clogging valuable garage space but being that they look great it may be CL-worthy for someone that needs them...

I would not have either. Found it by chance while looking at YouTube vids at methods for painting my fenders. When I saw it I couldn't believe it and was still a skeptic about it, until I did it myself. Even half way as I was doing it I couldn't believe it was actually working, lol.
