Big Jeep enthusiast since my dad's red 95 Wrangler S. Looking to get into a commute friendly Jeep in the new year, it would be my first Jeep. My heart is set on a Wrangler but I know I should probably get a Cherokee or Campus since I won't be off-roading in the near future.

Welcome! A part of me says "thats what they all say" ...then the jeep bug begins to bite spreading the binge buying urge throughout the body and IMO of your selected Jeeps the Wrangler is the one followed distantly by the Cherokee (unless its an XJ) lol

Hate to say it but the Toyota fj 40 was more capable from factory line than anything since excluding the Benz with portal axles

I think it originally was a acronym from the army . The army loves acronyms

GP was Fords design for the military vehicle or for military term of General Purpose so it could have come from saying GP, Gee P.
Alternatively Eugene the jeep was a character from Popeye (1938) and could go anywhere.

You will probably never find the real honest answer.

Taken from Wikipedia....to be taken with a grain of salt.
Many, including R. Lee Ermey, suggest that soldiers of World War II were so impressed with the then-new Willys MB that they informally named it after Eugene the Jeep as it was "small, able to move between dimensions and could solve seemingly impossible problems."

Thank you for all that information :) I'd like to think it's the Popeye character haha.

Awesome hefty ground pounder Jeep that could use the diesel engine. Might also want the double spare tire option. Minus the extra wheels the JT kind of has the same look.
