I am adding a few interior led lights to light the floor at night and wanted them switched. It seems the oem switches to replace the blanks are about $18.00 each. I had some rockers left from some RV upgrades and they fit the blanks size. I drilled a 5/32 hole in the blank and trimmed the back side for the nut. Inserted the switch and put the blank back in the housing. This seemed like an easy and cheap solution for some switches and hope it helps somebody looking to use the panel without spending a lot of cash.

    Very nicely done.

Question for anyone that knows. Do those blank buttons/slots pop out at all from the front?

If you're referring to the blank switch buttons on the bottom of the dash near the shifter in the 2012+ JK they can pop off. There is very little space behind those switch buttons and you don't want to damage the circuit board.
@Farmboy666 TJ blank buttons/slots has the space for a switch and can be either drilled or cut as mentioned by @TJ_abuser

On my 03 TJ they pop out from the back. There is a square cut out behind them where the wire come out with a good amount of room. You need to remove the top long panel on the dash, it snaps off, the main front pane has 2 screws at the top and then snaps off and the switch panel has a few screws holding it in. Pretty easy 5 minute job.

Modded another JK S-Tech switch system into my Tundra. Only one bundled wire pass the firewall with 12V switched power source.
