update after a week driving with the new engine K&N air filter.

Before would average 17.0 to 17.4 MPG, and now I've been between 18.1 to 18.5 MPG this past week. Highly recommend the K&N filter if you don't already have one.

No issues that I saw after a day running. Will pop hood n check it again tomorrow when I’m home since I haven’t checked since that 1st day(but haven’t seen any water leaking underneath.

IMO if the KN filter uses the OEM air box it won't be any more susceptible to general rainstorms or trail runs. Any deep stream fording or aggressive splashing thru deep puddles may benefit from another j.e.e.p upgrade.

Lol, then why didn't you just ask that.

Yes, it was even a better(tighter fit) then the OEM filter. OEM filter was kinda loose and felt like air could get through around the sides of the filter. The K&N was a perfect snug fit in the box(forcing the air to go through the filter and not around it).

I assumed it was an open air K&N that's the only kind I have seen on Jeep's and always makes me wonder about water splashes

So, thinking about changing my own brakes. Is this something you guys think can be easily done at home or should a mechanic absolutely be the one doing this?

Guess I’m asking is it pretty simple or is it to much for a non trained diy attempt?

You can do it!! Its really easy. Look up a couple YouTube videos and you'll be a professional brake installer in minutes if you're only doin brake pads. Normally when I change pads I replace the rotors as well, even if they are still good. The rear rotors can be a pain getting them around the emergency brake shoes but they normally pop right off with some persuasion with a BFH.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Already looked at a couple YouTube vids before I posted, just wanted to get a feel for how easy or hard it would be from this group.

Not going to do rotors, just the brakes but what the heck is a BFH? Is it Big Fucking Hammer....LOL

Changing brake pads is relatively easy but inspect the rotors for unusual wear. Changing rotors is not complicated once the *$# assembly line rotor screw is removed. In FL the 2012 JKU shouldn't be too rusty to need Thor's hammer unless you've been swamping that Jeep.

Any brand pads you guys recommend? Or recommend staying away from?

Funds low so just doing pads now because they really need to be changed or I would wait and do rotors too. Will do rotors next time I need breaks.

I cant remember off the top of my head what pads I have but I did buy them at napa. I wanna say the "napa gold"?? They seem to be pretty good. They dont make noise and they are kinda clean. Any good ceramic pad will be the ticket

think I may go ahead and do rotors since breaks have been sqeaking for about a month.

Also, brakes are new to me so do I need to change all 4 if not currently using 4wheel drive? or am I ok just changing the rears?

I would just go ahead and do them all. If you didnt wanna do them all at once I would do the fronts first and then the rear. But if the sqweek is in the rear then you should take care of those ones first. Most of the brake pressure is gonna be in the front. That's where you'll see the most pad wear tear.

Looking at these sets of Brakes/Rotors. Good reviews!

$315 on these but I know these are quality and would last longer according to all the reviews. Maybe just do brakes now and get these next time out.
    https://www.amazon.com/K2798-Evolution-Drilled-Slotted-Ceramic/dp/B005FKB9FA/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1547660744&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=powerstop+brakes+jeep&dpPl=1&dpID=51+MBv8iq2L&ref=plSrch

$155 so good value. Anyone have any opinion on these? If I do rotors now as well, I'm leaning on going with these to save money.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AN5UEFS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Also, still thinking about just doing brakes right now and if I need rotors it can wait a bit because I read the only thing that happens if rotor is bad is the brakes are worn unevenly or faster then usual.

I do think rotors are ok though. I here a squealing sound when I brake hard but if I brake sooner(gentler) then I don't here a squealing at all. So think the squealing is coming from the pad insert that alerts that the pads are worn.

I know a lot of places will resurface your rotors for a very small fee. But I suppose if they aren't warped and the brake pedal is smooth you'll be alright. Go for the pads and save the remaining coin for other jeep stuff
