I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4 and in the last week I have noticed that there is a NATURAL gas smell NOT a GASOLINE smell that is in the interior of the car. From what I can tell it is coming from the A/C unit. I took it to the dealer and they were too backed up to look at it yesterday so I had to make an appt to have them look at it but, they confirmed that the smell was like natural gas and not gasoline. They were as confused as I am. The tech thought maybe it was a dead animal somewhere in the a/c unit but it does not smell like death....I know THAT smell!! I only smell it when the car is turned on and the fan is blowing and or the a/c is on. The other strange thing is when the heater is on, I do not feel air blowing on my feet. The car does get warm but I don't feel air blowing on my feet/legs like I have on every other car that I have owned and I am wondering if the two are connected....

    Hello John, welcome from Oklahoma.

As far as the smell, could it be leaking refrigerant from your A/C system? Did they put die in it?
Where does the heat blow out of? If it only comes out of the defrost vent, you likely have a vacuum leak. The defrost vent is the default when there is little/no vacuum.

Welcome @BoomerSooner6868 my suspicion is mold. A form of mold can generate similar smells through the ventilation system.

might want to check your cabin air filter - read owners manual or check youtube for a tutorial.
If the smell is AC refrigerant the system will likely not operate or performance will be noticeably degraded.

Good point as I'm guilty of ignoring my cabin filter but mine didn't smell or I got used to it...LOL . But its too EASY to replace.
