Hi again, its me with another beginner question. I have the spare tire you see below and I am looking at getting a heavy-duty carrier. OEM shakes a lot, and the tits don't come out to the tire.

Please post if you have a recommendation, or a 'stay away from'.

    Thanks,
    Jim

I like the look of this one, but am curious about the 3rd brake light and if the oem light will bolt on.

That nice big spare tire might be too heavy for the OEM hinges. Rattles are telltale sign of imminent failure as inner tail gate welds tend to crack and tweak the door. No tire contact to tits can only make matters worse (some plumbing couplers can extend the shortie tits). I have the Tera Flex HD hinge. Its impressively strong and beefs up the two hinge mount points and takes the load off the tail gate. It's spendy but on sale it was around $450 a few years ago. Several comparable copies are available from Rugged Ridge etc. The RedRock tire carrier looks nice as well as the price but some of the reviews state some quality issues that needed DIY tinkering.

I didn't like the OEM periscope 3rd brake light so I modified the AEV led CHMSL to fit without the AEV mount. Picture is not mine

I thought it was required to have a 3rd light....? OEM doesn't bother me much, but I imagine that the carrier dictates what can be done and if oem will attach... and if it isn't required then yes, one like yours would do just fine... time to start a Christmas wish list. :)

CHMSL (center high mounted stop light) are required lights in most states. LED or OEM can be modified to fit the aftermarket HD hinge systems. Not necessarily promoting the TF brand but check out the installation instructions and you will see parts are included to reuse the OEM light. @JKBob 25 or mine are a custom design CHMSL that should pass DMV but ymmv

My 3rd light is in the center of my spare. My bad I didn't point that out. I had to custom fit it. But I did use a Hyline center mount kit.
