My very first car was an 89 XJ Pioneer, which I absolutely adored. Unfortunately, it was stolen and wrecked and I'm just now (more than ten years later) getting back into the jeep scene. I just picked up a 98 XJ as a DD and for mild play. However, I've already run into quite a few issues with it. I'm excited to be a member of this forum and get some pointers from some of you more experienced jeepers!

It sure does! I think I'm going to need to replace pretty much the entire suspension prior to hitting any trails though. It appears as if the whole jeep is original. Actually, maybe you can tell me where to start with it. I'm getting death wobble between 55-65mph but it smooths out over 65. It seems to be a bit worse when I pull to the right. I admit I don't have much experience mechanically, but I'm hoping to learn with this jeep.

Use the pic to identify some of the suspension parts that have to work together. Before diving into the big DW start with some basics in good balanced wheels with good even tread, alignment in check and inspect these components for excessive wear. Looseness in ball joints, tie rods, track bar etc may have a role in what your experiencing. A good shop should be able to identify any front end issues.

Welcome to the forum @XJEDDY . Post up,some pics. We love Jeep Porn.
I owned a 2000 XJ for 14 years. I hated getting rid of it. It was also my intro to Jeeps. They are awesome Jeeps.
Buncha awesome people here. You'll have fun here, and learn stuff. :jeepwave:

Thank you! I'll get some pics up soon for you guys. Meanwhile, I have another issue that's come up with it. Engine light came on mid-drive and I turned it off upon arriving at my destination. When I returned to start it, all lights would come on but no crank. The codes its giving me are P0700, P0705- Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction. Is it likely that its just the sensor that is malfunctioning or do i have a bigger problem on my hands? Should i J.ust E.mpty E.very P.ocket and start looking for a transmission now?
