Hello to everyone ! I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited i'm picking up tomorrow for $5,000. its 5.7L Hemi and in "rough" shape but carfax and title are clean. I feel it's worth fixing up, But who am I to know. Can anyone offer me some advice on things to pay particular attention to about this deal? I will drive it for a day or two before I buy. it's got 150+ on odometer. Thanks for your input!

Welcome aboard! Check for engine codes, and RUST. That's all I can think, of.

Welcome @nofear ...description of "rough shape" would concern me despite "clean" carfax/title. Things such as body damage, rust, poor to no maintenance, stripped lug nuts, CEL, transmission grinding, etc can add up the work load + bills quickly. At the minimum make sure the engine+trans+4WD system is working well. Proceed with caution as there are plenty of jeeps out there. The 5.7 is a nice strong motor but are you ready for the DD with low mpg? Just things to think about....

Welcome to the forum @nofear . Are you sure about your avatar name??
Some great advice posted up top. Only thing I can add. Don't trust carfax. They only post what is reported to them. And im sorry to say. People lie. Yup....true story. Saw it first hand with my JK. And a guy at work. Clean title. A good thing. Carfax...ummm.... Best of luck with your purchase. Post up pics....questions....Buncha great people here willing and want to help. Me....not so much..o_O. :boink:. Lollll.:jeepwave:

Thanks Much for your replies ! I'm definitely listening to your posts and am going to find a powertrain authority to give R a thumbs up or down. I'm checking for a company who sells the maintenance protection, may be wise to get if they take on 10 yr old purchases. JKBob thanks for the scoop on carfax. That was a big buying point for me that it wasn't wrecked or salvaged. I'm wary now. Aggrex powertrain red flags are blowing like the Dorian hurricane here in Little River SC last week! Can anyone suggest a way to have the powertrain "certified"LOL , Thats a joke most likely huh? The Jeep dealer here , any usefulness in them? Thanks really for your help, may get a decent Jeep then again...

Hey JKBob, This Jeep was titled new in N.J. and spent 4 yrs there then titled in Pa, my home state. I can't sleep a wink ! Would be great if the Counts Customs was around here. I'd take her in for a restore if the base vehicle was worthy LOL. I just got my '08 3.7 Loredo in good shape. You welcomed me to the forum Nov 2018. I had her parked at WalMart close to that time and someone slammed my front passenger side and booked. Traumatic to say the least , big time damage. I just got a 7x16 cargo trailer and that's why I need a 5.7 Hemi. Can you advise if I should do any mods to the rear suspension to accommodate the load ? I go all in when it comes to my Jeeps , i'm just old now, born in the fifties. Hahaa Please Lord this will be my last Jeep most surely ...let her be a lady not a 'wench' ... I mean never ending 'wrench'.

Took that jeep to a guys garage, he's no Jeep guy but we went over it with a fine tooth comb. Morrow of the story: great Base vehicle Engine/Trans strong but needed everything else under the sun. Couldn't make the $5g's work, any comments for this? $5g's and about $6/7g's+ invest ...would you do it ?

Good Morning Aggrex , sorry to ask but I've been trying to determine what DD in your post means. It concerns the 5.7L Hemi voracious appetite for go juice in the Grand Cherokee I wanted to get yesterday. I ask bc I still want this vehicle but it looks like i'll be in deep when all issues are resolved. Would you invest excessively over the value of a vehicles "worth" ?

Double DDs are great if its the total package deal but for this thread you're correct "daily driver"

Based on your comments I would NOT be interested in adding another estimated $6-7k in this vehicle. But for the best internet forum analysis post some pics of the JGC 5.7 issues and what your non-jeep guy meant by "everything under the sun" is needed. Proceed with caution!

I would think 12 or 13 Grand would buy a nice jeep rather than buying one and putting a lot of money into a 11 or 12-year-old vehicle but if he is interested I could sell him a nice 98 TJ for the right price.

The list is too extensive to post ...all maintenance , fluids, tires ,brakes , air cond, no spare or rim, minor body , exhaust , driver seat leather , but things like broken plastics and a couple of things.... and a minimind sprayed the chrome with undercoat (rubber)HAHAA CHACHING$$$
I'll just go and offer him $2500 but when I picked it up to evaluate it he said "bring $5360.back cash , not a list of anykind" LOLOLOLOL. Too bad their gonna stick someone with that heap bc it looks pretty good. You hit the bullseye , there's plenty of Jeeps out there.

Yeah I would ask for a lower price for that Jeep. It's not worth it for that amount.
