Considering either a 285/75/17 or 305/70/17. More than likely its gonna be a Hybrid tire, rather than a full MT, or AT. Prices seem to be close, and the heights are the same, so I'm basically trying to decide if the extra width is beneficial. What thoughts do you folks have?

Neither really qualifies as a particularly thin tire, IMHO. However, I would run with the 285/75/17 if you can find the tire style you want in that size. You will usually get a much better ride on pavement with the thinner profile. Less wandering around and following ruts but no real negative side to them versus going with a .75" wider tire.

    Just my $0.02

I really don't want to go past a 34. Anything larger, and I would want to regear.

Are you on 3.73 or so you have the rubi 4.10?

I have been running the 37s on 4.10 ( will be regear shortly) but it actually does fine on roads, and when off-roading 4 lo is still amazing.

35s are like 20lbs lighter a tire than 37s. If you have 4.10s it would actually handle the 35s half decent.

Also if your a manual the gearing doesn't seem to be as big of an issue as the autos.

Then with a 34 or 35 you will likely do well. Those do well with 4:10 gears. Good choice.

    I ran 34s for a while when I had a 2" puck lift and now run 35s with a 2.5" spring lift.

I have always like a wider tire ride myself. Richard is right that the taller tire will probably have a softer ride, but a lot depends on the wheel width.
