    Good day all,

    Just figures...

Been on the forum since Sunday and already have an issue. My New Member Introduction goes something like this:

"For whatever crazy reason, I am now the owner of a 18 yo 134k mile Grand Cherokee Laredo

Given the age, I would guess I will be here often."

    So, here we are.

I had the passenger side front window down and when I put it up I heard a loud bang as it reached the top of the travel.

Stupidly, I tried to move it down/up and now it's all the way down and out of reach.

Doesn't seem to be attached to anything.

I guess we know what we're doing tomorrow. Youtube and the forum will help me get there but any input appreciated.

63594_I.jpg Pick up a set of plastic pry bars from HF and clip tools to get that door panel open with minimal paint damage.

May have to replace window motor. Should be a simple swap once you get the panel off.

Unless it’s just the glass that’s loose if you can here the motor running when trying the controls. Then it will be a cheaper fix.

Halfway there, no blood, no scream, no tears.

Watched some Youtube vids, big help of course. Only broke one panel fastener.

Kinda warm here. Helped get the vapor barrier off in one piece. Pulled on barrier while slicing goo with utility knife

One man job but the Princess held a sunshade.

Surprise, surprise little plastic widget the holds cable ends to window trolly broke (I heard it break). Won't go there as so many have before. Repair? I think not.

So, was a failure to limit travel the cause or just a seriously crappy engineering/design solely at fault?

    Parts on the way.

PS Won't be nervous the next time (and there will be a next time or so I have heard)

Be sure to seal that vapor barrier when your task is complete. On some vehicles that vapor barrier does more than block vapor. On my BMW the vapor barrier diverts the rain water away from the open bottom sections of the inner door otherwise it drips into the carpet with the door closed...german engineering.

Eh... Maybe came from reading too many Craig's List ads for GCs cheap because of this and that problem. Actually prepped a GC for sale for my granddaughter. Had some issues (rust, oil leaks, radio).

This one was well taken care of so we shall see.

OBTW, Jeep replaces a 30 year old Volvo 740 had for 14 years that was totaled by a drunk driver. Hit from rear and slammed into vehicle in front. Car shortened by 2ft+

Reporting that window is all betta. Even got the vapor barrier back intact.

Dorman actuator came with spare panel fasteners which is a good thing.

Previous owner did driver side recently.
