Hi all. I need the brain trust here. I am replacing front drivers CV axle in my 2019 compass 4wd sport. When i pulled the old axle out, it leaked a brownish fluid. Is this cvt transmission fluid or gear oil? I cant seem to find a definitive answer online. Trans fluid should be red is would think...?

100%. Its looks almost like gear oil but doesnt have that characteristic odor. It was about a pint worth that drained out.

Ask the service manager or parts guy at the dealer about the normal color of the CVT fluid. Depending upon the age or contamination the fluid color may be different or someone used non OEM fluids in the past.

Got ya. It dies have 183k on it, and its probably (sadly) the original fluid. Ive ordered a dip stick and 7 liters of cvt fluid to drain and replace it...here is hopeing everything works out.
