Converting my Wrangler Sahara to 4wd

    07 Green Wrangler Sahara
    I am currently working full time (graduated high school 2015) as a Corrections Officer. I am also still trying to save money to get a good apartment for me and the future wife. I am trying to get my 07 Jeep Wrangler Sahara converted from 2WD to 4WD. It's cheaper than buying a whole new one but I still need some help.

    I know you said you think it would be cheaper to convert yours to a 4x4. I'm not so sure about that. You are going to have to find a complete front axle with the same gear set as yours probably 3.73, possibly 4.10 ($600-$1000). Transmission and transfercase ($1800-2500). New drive shafts ($600). Your time to make the swap, or pay someone else (at least another $1000). I am not sure of the electrical changes you would need to make i.e. new computer or reprogram the one you have to make the tranny and T-case work correctly without throwing codes, and wiring harness changes. Therefore you are probably $3400 minimum to convert to a 4x4. I bet you could trade up for under $2000 for a similar jeep with 4x4 if you looked around.

    Agreed. I think you would be better off taking the cash you would spend converting to 4x4 and putting the money to one that already has it. Unless you are a hardcore gear head and know all the ins and outs. It would be more of a head ache than anything else. Plus you would be down one vehicle if not the only vehicle for a month or 2... or 3 lol.

    That rubicrawler does look awesome. But I feel like it would still be a giant pain in the ass to get done. He said you could do it in your driveway but seeing how he struggled standing up with the jeep on the lift makes me a little skeptical lol o_O. Not saying it can't be done but if it were me doing that I'd have given up a quarter of the way thru and said "I should have just bought a 4x4" lol. If you wanna go for it OP then by all means go for it. Can't wait to see what comes of this if you decide to wrestle this into submission.:jeepwave:

    You don't have to get the rubicrawler. I just thought it was cool. You will need the shorter tail shaft of. The 4x4 transfer case and front axle. I would opt up for a Dana 44 out of a rubi. Start looking now. It will take a while to find one at an affordable price.
