Inspection...

I had the new jeep inspected at the jeep dealer. I expected an oil leak, even though they said it didnt when I bought it. Odd thing, I have had it since Friday and no oil spots on the ground. They also said a differential is leaking. Again no spots on the ground. They showed me pics and there was some oil on the parts. The brakes I suspected needed to done. They aren't terrible. Some of the fluids need to be replaced, expected. There is a nut loose on the seat, and another one, I can't remember off the top of my head where its at. Like I said, its a 2009. I expected at the least an oil leak. I called the dealer I bought it from and they said they will take a look and buy it back if need be. They also said a possible fix for the items.

Thoughts?

 

If the differential has a leak this would be a great time to drain and refill the axle(s) with fresh fluid with a new gasket. IMO minor oil leaks on older vehicles can be tolerated as long as they remain slow. Sometimes when vehicles sit from lack of use a leak can develop and could self resolve with ongoing usage.

 

Thank you. I didn't think of that. I was told the previous owners are retired military, never took it off roading and were from Washington state. Came south and didn't need it anymore. Rarely snows here. Now that you mention it, they may have only used it to go to the store?

We decided to keep it. I did some research and the breaks are fine. Fluids are fine. And your post gave me another reason to not worry too much.

I couldn't tell if the dealership got it from screwed me over or the dealership that did the inspection was just trying to make a sale. Who knows...

Unless it is actually marking it's spot, I wouldn't worry much about fluids as long as the consumption is low. Keep an eye on fluid levels for a few thousand miles. I suspect that second dealer was trying to run the bill up. Sort of like my local dealer, the service manager of which was trying to tell me the reason the NSG 370 wouldn't stay in gear was because the clutch was worn. And the clutch wasn't covered under the warranty-----

 

My husband and I were thinking the same about the second dealer.
