Hey guys, I'm looking for my first car and know it's going to be a jeep. I will hopefully be a frequent wheeler. I have done lots of research but want the "pros" opinion on which model to get, the pros and cons. has to be 1997 or newer. any opinion would be great, thanks! and maybe under 15-20 thousand.

I also just recently got a jeep but go for the 4.0 Engines. Ive done my research and all the other engines are from what I read underpowered. No offense to anyone who owns the jeeps without, but its just what I've read. I have a 2004 Wrangler X and have had it for about a month and I love everything about it. So anything before 2006 would be a good choice in my opinion

I think it's personal choice. Find one you like, and get it.

I agree with Chris. There are pros and cons to both models offered from 1997 - current year. Everyone says the new ones are underpowered, but you can't compare a 5000lb 4door JK to a 3800lb 2door. I think you will find that the new 2door Jk will outperform the TJ because of a tad more power and a longer and wider wheel base. That being said ORA magazine says that in it's stock form the 2003 - current year Rubicons are the best trail vehicle. They do not differentiate between the TJ and the JK. It is more about axle strength, selectable lockers, lower gear ratios in both the axles and Tcase. Of course mods can only make things better, and aftermarket products are generally cheaper for the TJ over the JK.

My 2016 jku is still noticeably quicker than my brothers 2003 tj.
    I think both are underpowered.

I think almost every car on the market is under powered, MORE POWER!

I read that article a couple months back. The tj unlimited rubicon is perfection.
