I'm new to the Jeep world I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, 3.73 gears, I would like to move up to a bigger size tire with 17 inch rims but I don't want to lose power. can anybody recommend a good tire size?

265 is almost a 33in tire so 33/12.5R17 would be ok

A 265 is the tire width. Depending on the aspect ratio, the height can be anything. For example, a 265/75/17 is 32.6" tall, and 10.4" wide. A 285/70/17 is 32.7" tall, and 11.2" wide. A 33 X 12.50 17 is as it states, 33" tall (actually 32.6") and 12.5" wide. Anytime you add more rotational mass, it takes more work for the engine to overcome the rotational weight, and a larger diameter reduces the overall gear ratio, this reducing the amount of rim pull. Any increase in tire size will affect the performance of the vehicle. To what degree depends on the size increase.

Thanks I completely understand, the weight and larger sizes tires and rims will make the engine work harder, Just wanted to know from other jeepers what size tires and rims they are running with a 3.6 automatic trans with 3.73 gears. I know I will lose power and fuel, but I just don't want it to be a dog on the road and on hills. Thanks for all the help

Flash to tire size and gearing otherwise both speedo and trans shift points will be off. Consider regearing for optimal performance when running larger than stock tires.

You can by a flash (programmer) that is reuseable if you change tire size or gear ratio in the future. I use Hypertech, but there are many good ones out there.

I assume you mean how big of a tire can you go without regearing and not feel like a dog. That is a tricky question. I ran 37s on a 3.73s for a while on my JKU with a 3.8L. It was kindof doggy. Didn't really like highway speeds. Now, I have 40s and 5.38 gears. Still runs like a dog and doesn't like highway speeds. but it is not my DD. I think 35s would be pushing it on 3.73 for good streetability.
