Hey guys!! so I am having a hard time trying to find info on the largest tire I can put on stock wrangler jk wheels. I'm already lifted 3.5 inches and running 35's. But, what I want to know is how big of tire I can put on my stockies and use them as trail tires instead of beating the piss out of my moto metals. I appreciate the insight and advice in advance!!20170803_190449.jpg

If I remember, the stock wheels are about 7 or 8" wide. 295 width tire seems to be the max size listed by tire manufacturers.

I'll have to dismount the tires on my stock wheels and measure them. I'd really like to have a set of 37's and just use them as a designated trail set. Do you know of anybody that has 37's on their stock wheels?

Watched a u-tuber review running 37s on OEM rims plus 1.5" spacers that needed some minor rr wheel well trimming. Your situation might vary with your lift but regearing will be needed if not done already.

I'll have to look that up!! I am regeared to 4.56's. I'm wondering now if that would be a low enough ratio for the 37s. :notsure:

4.88 is close to stock gear for 37s. For crawling 5.13

Your 4.56 should be good to go based on the chart

Probably need different chart for the 3.8 but for crawling it might be close. Your experience with 4.56 and 35s versus 37s should be ok

I have a get questions about this chart. Quadratec posts one in their forum also.,
But aggrex. This one makes a little more sense to me. But I still have a question or 2. But I don't want to hijack the thread.

Be fore warned. I will be back....when I feel it's where it's more appropriate.

I really hate this fricking tablet. It changes things after I correct and post. Tired of constantly reposting. Make out what you can. Friday night. I'm tired.

I don't like you no more. Your constantly quoteing me. Lol.
So when you gonna be ready so we can run the bunny trails at Rausch Creek?

Back to the gearing issue. According to the chart you posted. I'm apparently right on.
    Please...any one...agree or disagree.
According to the Dealership shit sheet. I have 321s. Now, that is with 225s on 16 inch wheels. I was getting 20 plus to the gallon. I jump up to 33s on 17 inch wheels. And I'm still getting 20 plus. And now with the chart that aggrex posted. I get it. It's as close to what I'm running, and what gearing I have. Makes the most sense. I....I think I get it.

Still not sure how I can jump from 285s on 16, to 305s on 17s. And keep the gas milage?

Forgot to mention. I didn't take my Meds tonight. Lol

    Just a few questions:
**are you calculating mpg manually 225 vs 305?
    **do GPS speeds match speedometer?
    **any speeding tickets lately?
**rpms the same 225 vs 305?
** use the chart only as a guide/reference (or any chart)

Calculating mpg between the 225s and 305s. No...not yet. But will.
    What GPS?
    Spending tickets.....No
RPMs is actually lower by about 300 or so.

Ok here's what I have going on.
When installed the new tire and wheels. I recalculated for 33 inch tires with my Superchip. When I went home rig was very sluggish. Even at highway speeds. So when I got home I checked to see exactly what Pro Comp chart stated the tire size. They are 32.6. So I recalculated to 32.5 as the Superchip only goes by. 25 increments. Ran so much better. Great throttle response, Awesome acceleration and RPMs jumped up by 150 or so. And after a couple weeks running at 32.5 inches I'm still getting 20 plus MPGs. And I constantly check since I run 23 miles one to work all pretty much highways.

So now. I happen to run through one of those "your speed is" electronic signs on the side of the road. And at 50, the sign said I was doing 48. I ran past it numerous times going to work. And it said the same thing every time.

Back to the chart. At 70 I'm running at 1900 RPMs. And according to the chart. I'm running 3.21s. So that makes sense. As far as running 2 MPH less than what my speedo shows. Not sure how that's happening.

Let's not rock the boat or JK since your ultra pleased with the look, MPGs and performance. The Superchip did its job recalibrating for the increased tire size and adjusting the AT shift points. Some jeepers regear the 321s but your bonus is the great MPGs for a JK. My GPS unit has mirrored my speedometer on trips. Experienced users of the chart typically prefer to be in the upper green area or lower blue area but so far you are happy with your JKs performance and that's all that counts :). See nothing obscene or vulgar when we stick to jeeps. LoL

Wow! Aggrex has been doing his homework. It is not so much the wheel as the tire is limiting you. You have To look at the specs on the tire. They will tell you the recommended wheel width range. If the tire specs say they recommend 8.0-10.0, in most cases you can go an extra inch up or down i.e. You could install said tire on a 7.0-11.0 wheel.

Just to add one more thing. Dually wheels are 6 in wide and shops are installing 35x12.50 all the time.
