Banks Ram-Air

    $100 is a great deal for that. I was thinking of buying the Banks stinger system with the exhaust but I decided to wait and get the Injen intake instead so I can add a snorkel to it later. As far as cleaning an oiled air filter goes, use a garden hose and wash it from the inside out at low pressure let it air dry and then apply the oil and let it sit for 20min before putting it back in.

    I ran an Air Raid system in my XJ. I noticed the higher Temps immediately. Figured it was just a side effect. And, had an overheating issue with it sitting in traffic. If imsaved the OEM box, i would have reinstalled it. After doing some research, and posting the question here on CAI systems. I choose to keep my JK stock.

    So what is would a relatively normal temperature be? I really wish that I would have trended it beforehand but I didn’t really think about it.

    This is during a 5 minute warm up period in my driveway. Left is intake temperature and right is ambient air tempature

    Based on what thermostat your running. You should be under 200 or better. A 180, you should be around that. The cooler the motor runs. The better.

    Back in the day. Guys would run 180s in the summer. 210s in the winter. These days. Honestly. Run what Jeep says you should run. And based on your model Jeep. Follow the manual. They know better than we do.

    Those look similar to the temps I was getting. The theory my friends and I have, is that location has a "Dead Spot" of air circulation, in which there isnt really any "Ram Air" effect, but pulls the heated air that goes thru the radiator and stagnates behind the headlight area. Factory set up pulls from the fender area, where the hood meets the body, thus getting cooler air.?. Now.....we haven't gotten any hard data to back this up, so take it for its worth. I ran it for a while, but seemed to lose a MPG or two, and along with the loud sound, I swapped the OEM set up back in, and haven't looked back. It sounded great, but when on steep grades climbs, and screwing around, it was a little annoying after a while for me. BUT....I'm old........and........listen to unique music.

    Actually, Modern engines run best at hotter temps. With the onset of computer monitoring and such, you can run an engine a little hotter, and get better efficiency without adverse issues.

    Really??? I'm an old school guy. We use to dump ice into our motor compartments. We had ice buckets. Now your dumping this on me. Really.?? Where was I? What did I miss??..ok.... there was that time in the 80s I missed, And we'll leave it at that. Lolll

    I will keep watching the temps for a while and I might reinstall the OEM intake and compare it for a little bit.
    A 5 degree difference between intake temp and ambient doesn’t seem so bad at 40 and I averages about a 25 degree difference at higher speed. Picture 3 was the highest I saw.

    Overall I really like the sound that the banks puts out but, now it really has wondering if there is a temperature difference.

    Yes! Run for a week, and note temps, then swap, and do the same thing. Keep us posted!

    Yup, if the engine does not get up to proper operating temps (or the computer does not see proper temp) the computer will keep the engine in an "open loop" and will run rich.

    But that time it was chemically induced...
