Ok guys, so I'm planning on going to the mountains in TN in the beginning of October. My late night brain is stewing over that horrible 29" spare on my Chi... I refuse to use that thing because I'm afraid that it'll damage other things...

So I feel like I have to get a full size spare but can't afford the $650 HD hinge carrier kit and the spare atm unless I put it on a 0% interest cc...

My thought is this: sell the small spare for whatever I can get for it, its in spectacular condition... And find a full size spare miraculously at some salvage yard for cheap.... And then just store it in the back of the jeep where the back seat has been taken out until I can afford the HD hinge kit.

Another thought that occurred to me... Why buy the hinge kit for the same price as a bumper that had the hinge carrier built in? Why not just buy the combo bumper carrier?

Just worried about being caught needing a spare and having to use a tiny one that'll damage my other hardware....

Pls help. Not expecting hand outs, just advice.

Are you looking for a spare tire? I have one. It's a 265/18 General tire. Same tire I use for spare with plenty of tread. TN border is only about 50 miles from where I live or I can ship it to you if this is what you are looking for. $20 bucks for tire + shipping. Cheap enough?

Your stock hindge can carrie up to a 35. It will fail eventually but most people I have seen get a good year or so out of it before the weight becomes too much.

Not sure what the numbers are... Lol. Still a noob at this. I need as close to a 35" tire with 17"x9" wheel as I can get... That's what I'm running atm.

I'm in Augusta GA so we may be closer than you think. Haha

To help allay your anxiety tire rack as an example has the Yokohama Geolandar M/T 35X12.5 tire for $158.30. Might need to buy a matching or inexpensive aftermarket 17" wheel with similar backspacing. Just don't try mounting the 35 combo on the oem mount.

Last year I picked up the TF HD hinge-only for $387 from NR4x4....might have to wait for a sale or look at copycat HD hinge from RR or tactik. Read the reviews/research for some owners opinions.

Bumper tire carriers to look at as an example: https://www.extremeterrain.com/sear...ier&generation=2007-2017&vehicleType=Wrangler

Yeah, I've looked around at all those things. The tires that I'm using are about $300 a piece... Yikes. But don't need that exact one for a spare. $200 for the wheel I'm using, but again, not necessary for the spare. Guess I need to research cheaper options... And figure out what the actual specs are on my tire not just the inches...

I've looked at the hinges and bumpers. Just $$$ - bleh. I guess I didn't think about checking the size of the spare when I bought the jk. But I think I just need to go for it to prevent issues.

ok..... What about a 35" spare... that's my next thought. it'd just be a temporary until we got to a shop to fix the flat.... do they make "donuts" that big? That sort of thing could definitely sit on the OEM carrier with a cover and it'd be cheaper and still functional... Thoughts?

Here is a Metal cloak bumper and tire carrier for 399. I really like Metalcloak's products. Very sturdy and well made.

Smittybilts XRC is decent and cheap. I like the hinge on the XRC. It is very hefty. I have one on my CJ7 and carry a 37X14.50X15 on a steel wheel with no problems.

Watch craigslist and Facebook pages selling used jeep parts in your local area you should be able to get a used 35" wheel and tire to fit you jeep for $100 or less. It does not have to match your current set to get you home. Your wheel should have a 5x5 also called 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

ok, so the wheel itself wouldn't have to be 17" right? it could be smaller as long as the tire is 35" and has the 5 bolt pattern?

Correct. I would stay 16inch or larger. Some 15s are too small and rub the front break caliber, but if you find a 15 you can always test fit and see if it rubs.

On a quick search I found 2 Facebook pages that sell used jeep parts, and I'm sure there are more.

I really like the look of that, but they only make that option for the TJ not the JK. bummer. I've found some other options tho. just not as inexpensive. haha

So ordering bumper with tire carrier next week and will be shopping around for a good price for the same wheel and tires as what I have so I can add it to the rotation.

Thank you all so much for your encouragement and advice. It's really appreciated.

Attaching a 5-tire rotation chart that I use every 5k. There are other charts available.
