I have a 1995 YJ Wrangler and I am currently working on fixing her up. I'm having a problem figuring out why my none of my gauges on my dash work. the speedometer, water temp, rpm, fuel gauges, etc do not work when I start my jeep. being new to the roads it would be nice to have things like these so I know my speed and how much gas I have most importantly. I've been told it could be a bad connection where the gas tank is but I looked really quick and saw nothing. I will look again to make sure it isn't. if there is anyone who could help me that'd be great. thankyou.

If it was just your gas gauge I would agree, however it wouldn't have any effect on the other gauges.

I would look for a common ground behind the dash that has come loose, may require removing some/all of the dash/gauges. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the YJ wiring so I can't tell you exactly where to look for the ground.
This issue is fairly common on TJ/XJs where all or some of the gauges stop working and it tends to be the plug on the back of the gauge cluster or the ground.

If you are serious about getting to know your Jeep and plan on keeping it You should really get a Dealer Service manual. For this model it is a set of 4 I believe. I bought mine for the CJ and the YJ on ebay.

Back to your original problem. I t could be a ground like Prerunner states. It also is probably not the connection at the tank, but it could be. First check your fuses and make sure they are good.

FSM will give the location of the ground wires. Don't waist you money on a Haynes or chilton story book. That's for kindergarten study and will leave you hanging. Check your battery to body and frame ground wires remove and clean them. Then take that factory aluminum ground wire on the fire wall off behind the engine and throw it across the yard and replace it with a #10 copper stranded ground wire making sure you clean the metal where it connects good. I run a extra ground wire from my battery to the body, frame and engine block. Bad grounds will drive you crazy and this will insure your body is grounded. May solve your trouble as well.
