Swamper LTB vs SX2 for stock jku

    No longer drive my jeep daily so I'm upgrading from my badass dc extreme country 33x10.5x15 on stock 14 jku with Rubicon suspension and rock sliders.

    I trail 2-3 times per week, desert mountain trails, crawling, deep soft sand dunes, mudding, mud here is clay and not very deep but height is a factor with my DCs and I bottom out.

    Will be doing a lift later. Maybe 2.5" only. Wanting a low center of gravity.

    Considering the LTB 35x12.5x15 vs SX2 35x10x15. Wheel is 15x7 level 8 punch.

    Which one is softer, more plyable, has better lateral traction, flex at 15 psi, and I guess better over all?

    I'm also concerned either SS tire will be too stiff even in load range C.

    The DCs flex very nice and I usually trail at 17# and 15# rear. They float over sand awesome at 12# and 10# rear. I'd like to do all off road at 12 and 10 but with my 33s I lose clearance. The DCs grip ok but my maxxis buckshot 2s were stickier.

    Will either SS be stiffer, softer? I don't wanna really be in single digits psi. Will either SS grip better, be stickier?

    Are you planning on running bias ply. Bias ply side wall is stiffer. You run less air pressure to compensate. The newest technology is the SS IROK. Anything against those? Of the ones you have chosen the sx looks to be the better tire, but I've never run the Ltb.

    My 1st choice in an off-road tire would be the Maxxis Trepadors (Stickies if you can get them) made by the same tire co. that made the buckshot mudders. My second choice would be SS IROKS. Both in bias ply. I have had experience with both. The treps just grip everything they touch. I was also very impressed with my buddies IROK performance in the rocks.

    Iroks were my first choice. But 1) they were made for better road manners and 2) they are directional. Also I don't believe they make the size I need.

    Maxxis treps would be my first choice but I don't have that kinda doe. I don't think treps come in my size either.

    So you got me lookin into maxxis now and they do have 35x12.5x15.

    Do you know the difference between the cc vs the trep?

    The cc are the newest and I've heard good things about them, but I've not seen them in action. They treps are directional. I'm sure you've looked already but SS makes an IROK non directional (ND) but you'd have to bump up to a 36" tire, and I believe they are radials, not bias ply.

    I hear ya.

    My bad if i sounded harsh. It's a little frustrating looking for tires for the jeep.

    Mainly because as I've come to realize most people who own jeeps and other awesome rigs want aggressive LOOKING tires that drive like a highway tire.

    So most of the forum questions are 'which mud terrain is best for the street?'

    Its no wonder the USA doesn't have the mud tires that other countries do, such as fedima.

    It's all good dude. Your tire search....Yeah, I get it. Went threw it too. I settled on a tire that I knew would give me the best performance on the highway. I run 23 miles one way at 65mph. Didn't want a tire that drowned out my music that helped deal with the morons that over slept 5 minutes. And drive like their life depends on beating you to an exit or a light.

    Again....all good. I run Pro Comps A/T Sport. Great Highway tire. Extremely quite tire at 65mph. And looks awesome...in my opinion. 20170624_165623.jpg

    I placed an order for the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, cause I need a tire that actually performs off road, AND can be used as a good street tire. Like Bob, I have a 25 mile commute. I think the Hybrid design is new, and I haven't run a Hybrid type tire, so......We'll find out in a couple weeks! :bikewheelie2:

    Cool. Would really like to know howloud they are at highway speeds, how they handle, and of coarse. How you like them. Your thoughts on them. What did you get?. You stick with your 33s???? Or jump up?? Really very interested with your upgrade, and thoughts.

    Given their design, I don't think they will be louder than any AT tire. I DID go to a "True 34" tire.......I guess their 285/75/17 measures at 34" according to the side being stamped "34" and they are only about 1/2" shorter than a 35" tire. They should be coming in next week, so I should have them installed after that. WILL post reports in my build thread, or randomly throughout the site.
