Jeep DJ5 2wd To 4wd Conversion

    Hey guys, I had a question about a topic that I had see quite often. I own a 1976 Jeep DJ5 postal. It has the AMC 2.5 I4 with the stock automatic transmission. I was wondering how easy it would be to convert this from a 2wd Jeep to a 4wd Jeep? Would I need CJ5 parts or would it all have to be custom? Thanks.

    Welcome! I would find a wrecked jeep of similar year, and just swap over the parts.

    Welcome! Several members on this forum may have the information to assist you in your quest to convert your postal vehicle. I'm just wondering whether this postal jeep would offer enough articulation on the trails after all your work or function better with just a locker for trails.

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    Does the jeep have the 2 holes on the front of the frame on each side on the bottom for hangers for the shackle and front of the springs, and mounts for the rear of the springs welded on the frame, or are you going to have to put these on? One of the front holes probably used to mount the bumper. What rear axle do you have? If you don't know shoot a pic of it and post it on hear.

    DJ-5 and DJ-6
    The DJ-3A was replaced by the right hand drive DJ-5 Dispatcher 100 in 1965. It was based on the CJ-5 and used the Hurricane and Dauntless engines. A 20-inch (508 mm) longer wheelbase DJ-6 model was built from 1965 to 1973 alongside the CJ-6. Looks like cj-5 will be a good bet. Good luck.
