I just bought my Jeep that has a 3.5 Rubicon Express Lift. Can anybody give me Insight on I'm wanting to probably put 18in wheels with maybe 35 on it I don't want it to rub when I turn the wheels I'm not looking for hard off roading.
Hopefully I can learn how to do this forum stuff too

Ahhhhh. o_O Another naked Jeep. Wrong thread dude. This belongs in the JEEP PORN thread.. Please, this a family friendly forum. Put some fender flares on your rig. We don't want to offend any one. Lolol.

With the proper backspacing on the wheels, and/or off set? You shouldn't have any rubbing with 35's. Hopefully someone who knows more about wheels comes in.

I picked it up Saturday from Auction here in Texas. Windshield was replaced this afternoon. I'm shopping wheels but not sure about offsets, tire sizes and width to get. I'm thinking 35's so any suggestions on how to get the right fit and sizes so they don't rubb would be appreciated. I'm going to accent everything in orange.

Nice pick up Chris. Welcome to the Jeep life. Your going to have a blast. Hope you have some spare coin. Your gonna need it.
I have a 2 inch lift with 33s. Awesome stance and no rubbing. But a recent upgrade. Flat Fender Flares. I'm bumpin up to 35s. And not increasing lift. It'll look nice. If that's the direction your heading. Just my input.

How when shopping do I look for tires. With my SRT8 Challenger I know to look for 245/75/20 but what tire size am I trying to find on this.
Does the rim size make a difference in the ride and price of tire from 18" or 20"

Welcome! Nice winter project spending not only quality time but bunches of moolah on her. More on that later as we don't want to talk about trivial things like that. I recommend sticking with 17" rims if you are going to run 35s on the JK. Prepare to sell the OEM rims as the backspacing+35s will make contact with something unless you run spacers. If the JK drives well at all speeds that's a good sign otherwise continue to inspect the lift and various components that have been installed.

Well here's my issue with the stock 17" jeep OEM Wheels. See where the ball joints from the steering linkage is. It's grinding that corner lip of the wheel.
I found the original owner that said he used after market wheels but he's not sure of anything. Something sketchy so that's why I thought 18"

The factory wheel has 6.25" of backspace (BS), that's enough to run a 10" wide tire. Most 35s are going to be 12.5" wide, so the consensus seems to be around 4.5" of BS is the sweet spot.

Looks like your lift came with a high steer kit (drag link sits on top of the knuckle), that's the reason for rubbing. A wheel with less BS will take care of that problem too IF you want to stick with a 17".

Thanks for the help. So keeping a 17" wheel is possible but I need to find one with a 4.5 back space? So I'm guessing when talking to tire shops they will know what I'm saying. It sucks that I can't drive it to a tire shop. I trailered it home and have loaned out my trailer for 2 weeks. So this is going to be a crap shoot

Staying with a 17in wheel will give you the most tire sizes available for future purchases. with the 3.5in lift you can run up to a 38in tire with flat fenders. I have 4in lift with 40s. 37x12.50x15 on 17x9 wheels would look great on your jeep, but the 35s you mentioned will likely look good as well. Are you going to run aftermarket fenders or are you going to put the factory fenders back on?

Correct, provided something isn't bent or out of whack. 2 ways to talk about the subject, backspace or offset. I prefer using backspace as its constant no matter the width of your wheel, offset will change with wheel width. So if your tire place gives you offset just go to the googles and pull up a offset-backspace calculator.

    In the pics below I used a 8" wheel, 4.5" BS = 0 offset. But a 10" wheel with 4.5" BS = -25.4 offset.

    Hope that makes sense :)

Great point BBS. I see so many people trying to use backspace and offset synonymously.

Great find Poorboy cookers. If you decide you don't want the hard top I am looking for a used one, and I am also in Houston.

3 inch zone lift. Fox 2.0 shocks. 35 inch nitto ridge grapplers. Bushwacker flat fenders. No name steel bumpers front and back for now.
When I first lifted my JK I had 33's on it and it looked flat out silly. 35's and bigger will fill the wheel wells and look a lot better. Like @aggrex said. If you stick with a 17 inch wheel your tire sizes and options go thru the roof. And it looks better IMHO. Just remember when reading back spacing numbers the lower the number the farther the wheel sticks out past the fenders or what have you.

I have 17"x10" wheels with 3.75 B.S. they stick wayyy out there with my 35's lol. Couldn't keep my rig clean if I parked it in the garage and never drove it again haha.

I was hoping my brother was going to come over tonight and swap wheels with me for a couple days. I just need to get the old boy inspected and plated so I can drive it somewhere to be looked at. Its possible something could be bent. The auction yard moves all vehicles around by large fork trucks. But the front drive shaft is missing too. So it needs to run on new shoes to get that problem measured and replaced. I bought a brand new 2014 four years ago. Drove it for a year before I had to let it go. I never got to build it so Im going to make up for lost time.

@PoorboyCookers. Some really awesome advice up top from some very knowledgeable members. It may cost you some coin to fix an issue or two. But it will be well worth it. Have fun with it.

@boondoc89. I'm with you. I have 33s now. Just installed flat fender flares. And they look silly now. They look to tiny. So, I'm lookin at 35s, and.......maybe 37s. I want to keep the street and highway capabilities. And trail worthy. I have a few weeks to research it.

Keep us posted PoorboyCookers. I'm subbed.
