hi guys, I'm brand new to the forum and brand new to jeeps, I have a 2000 xj that has 216xxx miles and have finally ran into my first issue with it. after about 5 miles of driving her down the road my RPMs start to jump and drop sporadically, but also all of the gauges on the dash will max out and cut off, jumping everywhere (and yes it is all of them). it will occasionally die, and also I have a CEL and the the code is P1022 which is a TPS low voltage. I have looked all over these forums and found other people have had similar problems but they are all different fixes. Any tips on troubleshooting and actually confirming it is just a bad TPS??

    Thanks in advance,
    Dirty T

Welcome! With a 17 yr-old, 216k+mi, new to jeep (5mi)= not the best combo imo for any vehicle but maybe one of the suggestions forthcoming might solve a piece of the puzzle. Hang tight while the holiday turkey digests.

Your problem is ground not properly connected may be due to rust. Start with battery terminal and clean them good, remove ground terminal first. Also remove the ground terminal connected to chassis and clean it real good. I had the same problem and cleaning the terminal fixed the problem.

Also clean the battery positive terminal. Please note that negative terminal should be removed first. and when you have cleaned both terminals you need to put the positive terminal first and then negative terminal.

Welcome to the forum Dirty T.
Do you live in NJ? Lol. When I traded in my 00XJ last year. It was having the same issue. A little less miles. But the same issue. And honestly. It never cut out. The gauges just died and would jump back up. But it seemed to happen only when it was cold.
As far as the fix. Tariq Latif is point on. Check your grounds and make sure their clean and good connections. Easiest, quickest and cost free check. Post your findings dude. And we can go from there. Good luck

hey guys sorry for such a delay in response, quick update I managed to fix the issue.

after cleaning all the grounds with no help, I proceeded to pull my battery out and found a plug that inserts to the battery tray that had a connector leading to the grill, (I saw on some forum posts that this actually leads to the PCM) but there was actually a broken wire under that and upon repair it fixed the issues.

thanks again for the help guys

I am actually in camp lejuene North Carolina and bought it down here, I guess it is possible someone may have brought it down here from there, there are quite a few Marines from Jersey down here
