Speedometer Gear??

    On my 2001 Jeep Wrangler, the speedometer is off. I looked up the tire size and matched it up with the stock rear gears and came up with a 30 tire and 307 rear gear. I ordered a 27 tooth speedo gear and according to my GPS I am doing roughly 8 miles an hour faster than the speedometer indicates. Do I go with a larger or smaller gear for the speedometer. Thanks!

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    I order a programmer to correct it electronically in the computer. As for you question, I believe if you are reading too fast you need to slow it down so more teeth/larger equals fewer rotations and slower speed. Anybody else confirm this?

    If your Speedo gear doesn't fix the issue. I'd pick up a programmer as @OFFGRID suggested. A Superchip is fairly cheap and would do the trick.

    I will look at a getting a programmer. I work on a military base and they are crazy about speeders. Thanks for the help!

    Well this is what I did I called Quadratec and told my rear end gears and they in return told me what speedo gear I needed and with my GPS I’m right on. FYI there # is 800-745-5337 hope this helps.
