    Sooo I've been saving my money so I could buy an XJ and lift it 4.5 inches and throw some 33's on it....however, I was thrown a curve ball when my buddy offered me his 95 YJ 4cyl...my budget was about 2k for the vehicle itself and buy the add ons after. The YJ has 120k miles and is a 4 speed. He'll give it to me for $1500...do I jump on it or stick with the original XJ plan. I'm also having a really hard time finding an XJ in decent condition for 2k, keep in mind this would be a winter beater so I don't wanna spend too much.

    Interesting decision. Finding anything in an XJ, not totally rusted out, for 2k will require a bit of a gift from the Jeep gods. I am sure such exists but 4 leaf clovers may be easier to locate.
    Of course, any YJ at $1500 is a bit of a gift as well if it is in decent shape. The 4 banger is not going to produce a ton of power...but you won't need a big lift to run 33s. (but maybe gears) I would check it out and test drive it. Make sure you both put it on the highway and spend a little time off-road, in both 4hi and lo, to see if that engine will do what you want it to. They are not bad...just don't think about drag racing anyone....and I mean anyone. If you are the "put 'er in low and crawl" type (like me)...it may be a great deal and will go most anywhere you aim it. If you are a "spin the wheels and let the mud fly" type...you will not be satisfied with the 4.

    Just my opinions of course. Good luck with your decision. Let us know how it all comes out for you.

    I vote YJ but that is based on no pics or info on condition of your buddies YJ. Good luck

    I just want something that'll be fun to push through the snow. I know the Cherokee will do work but I'm not sure about the 4cyl YJ....also I have yet to see it in person but I know it needs new floor pans. So I expect decent rust

    Pop onto autotrader and see what they have in your area for XJs. There is nothing wrong with waiting to get what you want.

    $1500 For a running YJ is always a good deal. The mileage is pretty low too considering its age. Its old so your going to be doing constant maintenance on it. Just enjoy it like a hobby. I like Richard's comment on your idea of running 33s. It will do fine once you re-gear it.
