Spring lift questions

    On my 82 cj7 the previous owner did a bad lift job. All they did was replace front and rear shackles with longer pieces of metal. I guess they did it because the leaf springs are in poor shape. One rear one is bent at the end causing the jeep to sit crooked. Anyway... I've ordered OEM shackles. I'm looking at 2.5" "soft ride" spring lift kits. I don't want a super rough ride so I'm considering a Skyjacker kit but can't find any reviews. I'd love to hear some suggestions, brand options, Pros/cons, thanks

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    I have heard sky jacker makes a good riding spring. I personally like Old Man Emu springs, but If you wheel em they start to sag quickly (street and mild offroad only for these springs). My second fav is Rubicon express. They seam to take to wheeling better. Also I would get YJ springs all the way around. They are much better riding than any CJ spring. The rear just bolt in. The front you will need to order YJ shackles and YJ front hangers. Rocky-road sells a nice complete kit with HD 5in shackles. I like 5in shackles on my jeeps because they allow the lift springs more movement when the compress, and they do give you 1more inch of lift. So with 3.5in of lift you can run 33x12.50s and if you get Highline fenders up to 36x12.50s. You did make the comment that the lift shackles you had were bad. Not all are bad. Some are well made some not. If you order a Rubicon lift I believe they come with the hangers and YJ springs to make it work on the CJ.

    304 V8 Renegade with 4" lift, LSD front and rear, 3.73 pushing 33x12.5 duratracs.
    Keep in mind that longer shackles will effect steering stability and every lift needs the steering geometry reset for proper steering. You can get away with the stock pitman on 2.5 but add in shackels too you may need to get a drop pitman to level out the components. stay away from body lifts.....
