guys/gals wonderful family of the Jeeps dot net forum. I have to say that my transmission kinda hates me. It all begins Saturday morning. Woke up did my thing went to work till 1 then I wanted to go to happy valley. Not so happy this time. So anyways we pull in didn’t know. 4 inches of ice and about 18 inches of snow on top of a un leveled surface so it was fun for about 2 miles till I had to pee lol so stoped got out did my thing got back in and didn’t go anywhere....:annoyed: so put it in 4 low still nothing... (still a newbie so trying what I think would work) but it didn’t work and then hooked winch up turns out the cables shorted out. So that didn’t work so took it off found the sort and fixed it in the snow.... it was a horrible 2 hrs but after that got out with 4 low and the winch. So got out of not so happy valley and headed home. Let the Jeep sit and rest on Sunday after beating on it like that then Monday all it good and this morning... it pops 4 transmission codes on me. Ganna go over the fluid in the morning but checked it earlier and it seemed ok but it was raining so I kinda did it quick. 3655E53D-EE5F-46CD-9F9F-8D921ADBD7E5.jpg3655E53D-EE5F-46CD-9F9F-8D921ADBD7E5.jpgB0004CFE-D56F-4CCF-891D-7AA2EEEEB937.jpg This is fun... :sadviolin:

Ok @Billy1234. Did a quick search. From what I saw. And let me put this disclaimer out there. Im by far no expert on the subject. Just covering my ass since some members like to point out....yeah sucks when you have to issue a disclaimer here.
Anyway. I found it could be a faulty heat sensor on your tranny and / or over heated the tranny. You did wheel thru some ice and snow right? Coulda over heated it. How long did the issue last? Ya let it sit and it was ok? You checked the fluid.? Just throwin darts dude.

Where's our code readers. I found a code 714. Not 706 as Billy posted.

I did a bit of my own research to. I pretty much got the same stuff you did bob. But I also got a few ideas that it could be. Like dirty tranny fluid. The Jeep was sitting for about a month didn’t really think sanything about it sitting but that could be it. But worst comes to worse I’m screwed lol but we’ll see more today what everything looks like once it gets bright out haha.!

Good thing you had your winch to pull you out. AT are great but I've had situations of them overheating (beach, deep snow) with my Jeep GC and Hondas so I selected MT for my JK.

Very true. Would a aux tranny cooler help that at all or waste of money?

Anytime you can lower the temp of the fluid the longer the components will last. Here is a chart I found for you to look at.

An auxiliary trans cooler could be a positive investment if the underlying issue is trans overheating. In my GC the hot sand/temps contributed to getting the hot trans temp warning on the dash despite the aux cooler. Your situation in the snow might have been different. For example how hard and how long were you aggressively trying to get unstuck.

Changing the ATF is a good first step especially with trans fluid color changes and burnt smell. Hopefully that takes care of the problem. Might want to review the AT flush/filter change procedure for your specific JK or maybe someone that has done the procedure can chime in as dropping the trans pan is not a thorough ATF change. Most AT requires flushing to get all the old ATF out since the ATF is pumped through the torque converter, cooler lines into the radiator and back.

Haven't had to change my JKs fluid yet. But I did twice on my XJ. And chris4x4s videos are pretty much the same i did. Trannies very similar. Burnt and old fluid will create issues. Definitely change fluid and filter @Billy1234. You should be good to go dude.
