Which year Wrangler for engine swap?

    Ok we are new here but not new to the jeep world. However we are looking to buy a used jeep and eventually do a engine swap from 6cyl to chevy block ( either small block or LS) my advice I'm looking for is what year Wrangler would be a easier swap? TJ or YJ? Also what motor is easiest to do the swap with? Also any other help or advice would be great. Thank you everyone and hopefully I didn't sound to dumb.

    Welcome! Not a bad question as Jeep owners have done V8 conversions for more power/torque or the OEM motor implodes giving them an excuse to upgrade the motor to the next level.

    Sorry I don't have an answer for ya. Not very familiar with either model related to the build your lookin to do. But I've always been a fan of the LS motors. I'm sure other members with more experience will jump on soon.

    I'm subbed to your build. Post up pics when you decide on a Jeep and your build.

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    If you do a TJ the Dodge Magnum V8 is the easiest to install. Almost everything bolts right up including electrical with 2 little splices once you get the mounts welded in. I know a couple guys who have done this. If you go YJ, LS you have a lot of work, adapters, computers, mounts, etc The 350 carberated would be easiest, but I don't run carbs anymore. I like the pre-87 350 with an aftermarket TBI set up.

    Ended up picking a 98 with a 4inch skyjacker lift! Love it!! Will post pics soon! I've owned a 89 and a 99 already and now this 98! This is a 3rd Vehicle for us and gonna be a toy!

    I think you found a great looking jeep. I like the idea of having a 3rd vehicle as a toy. It allows you to push a little harder and do a little more without the worry of how you are going to get to work Monday. Can't wait. When you are ready to do the Magnum swap let me know and I'll try to hook you up with my buddy that did his.

    Thank you to you all!!..... " offfgrid" I'll def look you up. Not sure when we will do the build but right now we have orders a new LED light bar and LED cubes. Other then those minor upgrades I'm gonna focus on very small issues the jeep has .. nothing to serious all very minor.
