The following is a list of the five most common signs that can indicate a failing oil pump.
    • Decreased Oil Pressure. Your oil pump is what regulates oil pressure. ...
    • Higher Engine Operational Temperature. ...
    • Unusually Noisy Hydraulic Lifters. ...
    • Noise in the Valve-Train. ...
    • Noisy Oil Pump.

Pressure tends to fluctuate .... could just be a bad gauge aswell I guess.

I would hook up a mechanical oil gauge to see what is really happening first. Then you can go from there. Oil sender or gauge.

Agree with @Offroad798 . Simple easy check. And go from there.

The pressure will fluctuate with the the temp of oil and RPMs of the engine. As the oil gets hot it will thin, and lower the pressure a little. Cold oil is thicker and makes the pump work harder to move creating a little higher oil pressure. Also the pressure goes up with the RPMs of the motor. I noticed on my 94 the Oil pressure runs significantly higher than my 79 CJ7 at idle and also higher than any Chevy 350 I have ever owned at idle. Both my CJ7 and 350's run less than 10psi at idle, but at higher RPMs the pressure will go as high as 40psi. My 94 YJ stays between 20 and 40. Fluctuation is normal.

Yeah I'm familiar with that forsure! My problem is from time to time I start the jeep and it says no pressure and then I can shut it off and turn back on 2min later and it shows it as normal.

The idea of hooking up another gauge is actually smart and I'm gonna prob try that for sure.

no fluctuation here at 176000. 55 at cold start,50 driving hot at any rpm 700 and up. 40 min at hot idle stopped.
btw i had a sender go bad,got one at autozone. it reads exactly like the old one when good.
