Ok so I'm having some trouble with my ac in my 06 TJ. When i give it throttle it will stop blowing out the hand vents and will start blowin out the defrost vent and sometimes out the floor but when i left of the throttle to coast it will come back out the hand vents. Also the first and second speeds don't work at all on the fan speed id like to know if that's related and who else has had these problems and what i should do to remedy this situation. I love riding with my doors and windows off but with this humid southern heat its nice to have some ac when you spend the whole day working out in it.

The changing vents is due to a vacuum leak. The defrost vent is the default when vacuum is lost.
The speed issue may be a bad switch or switch connector. The Jeep Cherokee XJ (a lot of same parts as the TJ) had a common issue of melting the blower speed switch connector. Another issue is a blown blower motor resistor however when this goes out you typically loose all speeds except for high.

I would start at the vacuum reservoir which I believe may be mounted on the passenger side inner fender under the hood towards the firewall. Rectangle black box with a vacuum line coming from the side. #8 in the image below. Follow the vac line checking for any small cracks. There may be other vacuum lines coming off the intake as well and it wouldn't hurt to check them as well. The leak could also be behind the dash as the vacuum line does enter into the vehicle to control the blend doors.

I just did fixes on the leaking vacuum line issue a couple of months ago. From the diagram, #2 (both of them), 5, and 8 are the most common areas for a leak. I actually had 2 leaks so it was frustrating when I found one and repaired it, but it didn’t fix the issue. If that happens, keep looking as there is another leak.

The cheap fix is to use heat shrink butt connectors at the leak spot. Cut the hose, throw both ends into a butt connector, and heat it to seal the line.

If the line is really bad, you can buy a new vacuum line online for about $12.

I ordered a new vacuum line from Morris 4x4 for about $12. Mines an 04 so I had to take the battery and tray out to replace it but it still only took 20 mins. Fixed the shifting blowing air from defrost/head/feet under load

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement for #6 on this list. The have vacuum supply line. Mine is broken off right at the firewall and I can’t get it to work right by trying to rig it back together. Thx

Is the line just broken? You can get replacement line and connectors @ advanced auto and possibly cut and splice.

It’s broken completely about 1/4” away from the firewall. I was able to splice it back together temporarily but I don’t know how long it will last and at some point will need to replace the line that goes through the firewall and plugs in behind the glovebox. I can’t find the replacement or part number for it anywhere though.

I think I would just pull it through splice it with a new piece and put it back through the firewall

Make repairs from the inside the Jeep if the broken section is too short from the firewall.
