I recently bought an 84 cj7 that needed some engine work. Although I’ve had a 93yj, 97tj, 10&12 jku, I figured that I would try to recreate a legendary simple jeep rather than buy a new one. Looking forward to a lil lift and bigger tires, looking around for different perspectives. Let me know what you think.608A2FCE-E5B1-4D2E-8C7F-03F62E75FBBC.jpg

Love an old CJ. My introduction to Jeeps was when my Dad got a 1985 CJ7 in about 1990. It was tan with nutmeg top/interior.
We put a 2.5" lift, some 33"s, and tube bumpers on it and it looked damn good pulling the bass boat we inherited that just happen to be about the same color. Striped the Jeep to match the metallic flake in the boat.
    I miss that Jeep.

I’m looking to lift it a lil bit, probably 2.5in. Just doing my due diligence trying to see which lift I might like best. Seeing as to how this is going to be a marathon rather than a sprint, just making sure I get the right set up for me.

Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
Old Man Emu at all for corners for both springs and shocks. Best ride out there for a CJ especially if you do the YJ spring in the front. You will have to change the front hanger and shackle to YJ. Rocky-road.com has it all for a great price.

Thanks all, I’ve read up on old man emu, that’s kinda where I was leaning. As for my avatar, my lil buddy loves his new toy.

So, I started to clean out the rats nest of a wire harness the previous owner cut, spliced, chewed on and taped back together. What a mess. At least with the Nutter bypass and HEI distributor I can bypass the computer all together. Just a start, but already looking cleaner.BD1714C6-CBB6-48D7-AC99-B38C7C999599.jpg 42586111-E26B-459D-88FB-38067CD19C9B.jpg

Great job on the wire harness. Consider using some wire wrap to protect those wires.

I will, definitely, like I said, that’s as far as I made it in my limited time last night. Just the first step in the process.

I just picked up an '85 CJ7. Not as nice as yours but it's a project. Runs a bit rough and the exhaust really smells bad. Gas must be really old.

Welcome! Start a small intro post about your CJ plus some bonus pics. Exhaust smell could be an overly rich mixture in need of some fine tuning.

Congratulations, ive been having fun just tinkering with mine. Nothing significant yet, just finding more pleasure in keeping an old goat running rather than just turning the key and going.

I know it’s been a while, but I’m just getting time to play with this thing. Wife got me some rims and tires for Christmas, and then I finally got my 2.5 in OME lift. Got the springs and shocks on last night. Before lift and after lift isn’t significant, but I like the look 260FFB03-9BD1-4FD8-8D4C-04C56FDB409C.jpgCCA4E43D-6C25-42F8-9F78-DD4E779791D5.jpg

Looks great! I see the difference. Perhaps the larger tires are filling the gap.

I went with 32x11.50 all terrerains for now, I like the look, not too high for a short guy like me to get in and out of, I’m not getting any younger.

I'm rigging up some saddle stirrups on a strap that can hang down to get in then retrieve it to back under the seat . I'll share pics when I get them done. In case later you decide on 35's or even 37's @Billyo15
