Bought my TJ with LED taillights and quite frankly, didn't love the look of this particular set. Also had some missing plastic around the screws. Decided to return to stock tail lights. On the driver's side I was able to pull the harness out to the "plug & play" connection. But on the passenger side, INSIDE the car, behind the p & p connector, it looks like the wires were spliced are taped to 2 different places (kind of a "Y" formation), and now the "plug & play" part doesn't pull all the way out of the back. If I pull until it comes apart, I'll lose the wires into the hole. I know I can get at it from underneath and shove it back up and TO the hole, but it just barely makes the edge There isn't enough room to grasp the connector, even with my small fingers. Don't really want to make a bigger hole! I've looked for video but all of them seem to be about going FROM stock to LED.

Also, is there any issue with keeping the LED flasher when returning to stock? (I'm thinking not.)

Not a TJ owner yet but I would remove the led flasher. Seems you have some wire splicing (extension) and wire repair to do to bring the plug+play back to stock. Depending upon the application I may use liquid tape instead of electrical tape for more waterproof permanent repairs.

snukulu, sorry to hear of your struggles on something that should be easy.
Unfortunately without seeing it for ourselves it is hard to tell how much of it may be hacked up.
It appears the stock replacement taillights have a pigtail on them so as long as the factory plug is still there it would appear they should be able to connect.

Do you have a trailer hitch and associated trailer light plug?
if so, is it possible the spliced wires are for the trailer lights?
