My mental m$%3#tion says 5W20 is too thin for an engine either burning or losing oil. At the rate of oil burn/loss I would not use $$ synthetic

I'm suggesting heavier weight (5W30) but let's see what @Awrench comes up with. Good move on the PCV valve as they have a rep for getting clogged or stuck. Synthetic oils offer some advantages but are spendy at your loss rate.

I was also going to suggest thicker oil, maybe 10w-30...

Wouldn’t thicker oil kinda freeze in the winter time? I live in upstate ny and it gets kinda cold up here some times.

Yeah would definitely want to take that into account.

I would start with 5W30 and watch for any improvement.

@Prerunner1982 owners report that cleaning/replacing the pcv valve had positive results. @Billy1234 could try the 10W30 at this time while temps are still moderate.

    Should I do 10w30 or 5w30?

I think the 10w30 is a little thick. I could be wrong never really cared this much about my vehicle but I’ll say this I’d rather keep it then sell it (unless I have to)
