Should new crank sensor be magnetic?

    hi. I am trying to replace crank sensor in 2001 Cherokee and after incredible difficulty I got the old one out and I notice it is magnetic but the new one is not, I got it online and before I install it I want to check if it should be magnetic or does that mean it is defective ? Thanks
