Hey folks. I found this site doing a google search for LS swaps on a WJ and found a thread of somebody in that process right now! My 4.7 has a leaking head gasket, and before I put $3500 into a reman motor (including labor) I'd like to see about installing something better. :)

Right now it's mostly stock... 3" lift and 32's. Still needs a lot more goodies like rock rails, more skid plates, etc. I'm not building a crawler; just a competent "expedition" type vehicle. :)

Glad to see there's another active Jeep site!

just a head gasket and you want to throw the ENGINE out?
Did I miss something - as to why replacing engine?

    Something thoughts -
Do the heads, timing chain, gears,
Depending where you are check with local state Emissions, you may be limited to that 4.7L.
Anything else (ie 4.0L*) will be a serious install, remember computers are specific and my term MARRIED to a 4.7L

Skill level, tools, work shop, availability of parts, time, maybe KISS and repair the 4.7

    *my Choice of jeep engines.

I agree with Awrench. Sounds like you could just replace the head gasket and be fine. Spend another $800+/- and have the heads rebuilt. Since you're there replace the timing chain/gears. How many miles are on the Jeep?
