My TJ has an AX 15 5 spd transmission which I recently took out and reinstalled for a new clutch assembly. I notice the shift light keeps telling me to shift to 6th gear, but I don't have one. I'm about ready to simply remove the bulb to the light.

Is there an easy legitimate fix I am missing?

What's the down-side to removing the bulb would be my question as there is no 6th gear. If all systems function correctly after bulb removal I would be elated but not as much as finding that dang seat belt buzzer.

The seal belt buzzer is your friend -
Its there to remind the forgetful TO PUT ON YOUR SEAT BELT!!!

If it remains on when belt is secured thats another issue worth looking at.

Understood! Seat belts are awesome but on some vehicles the buzzer is loud, relentless, persistent, unending and invasive while repositioning the vehicle. Luv the silent flashing reminders from my Toyota.

Tape would work great to tone it down.

Mick - your upshift light, is driven by the PCM, regearing has the algorithm AFU - speed. RPM. load. Chalk it up as unintended consequences. Upshift masking decal

Thank you, but I did as advised by removing 12 screws and taking out the offending bulb. The only problem other than 30 minutes time spent was of course the screw I had left over when I was finished! What the hell, nearly everyone could use an extra screw.

I always seem to have extra bolts. But never any extra "screws". Maybe I'm doing some thing wrong.

Missing screws may mean it's time to bolt! LOL I put new Bestop Trailsomething seats in 'Rhonda' yesterday to replace the worn out Smittybilts I had. The old ones were gray anyway and they called the new ones spice. Judge the color match for yourself, they seem like pretty well made seats.

Seats look good. Maybe it's the lighting, or maybe Jeep changed their color coding but that looks too light to be spice. Of course my reference is an 85 Jeep CJ7.

When I was looking for new seats I discovered every manufacturer that sold a 'spice' color had a different idea of what it should be. Mine are Bestop and come very close to the dash and console color. Damn they are expensive but it would have cost even more to have them reupholstered.
