My check engine light came on and so with a code reader it says my TCM is the problem. Fans stay on when the Jeep is started/on. Runs weaker than normal and slightly bucks when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Was bucking lightly when in reverse but I re-adjusted the (throttle control cable?) And it significantly improved the bucking. Does this sound like a TCM issue?

    Welcome from Oklahoma.
Though I have done many things to Cherokee's dealing with a TCM is one thing I haven't had to deal with (thankfully).
Hopefully someone here will have that experience and be able to help you out, but if you find the answer elsewhere post up and let us know the outcome.

tell us more when scanning* what codes do you see?

I would rate PCM failures WAY down the list of possibilities.
SO lets try to solve this 1x1 issue by issue.
Tell us the codes and any issues...

OH I always forget WELCOME to the club - :jeepwave:

    Thanks for the welcome.
The only code that showed up read automatic transmission module and it wouldn't clear when that was attempted. No other codes show.
Check engine light came on when my sister borrowed it for in town use. She said nothing seemed abnormal except for the light being on. A couple days later the Jeep was lightly bucking when I drove in reverse in a parking lot and in 1st gear a little. I adjusted the throttle control cable and it fixed the bucking. I noticed a day or so ago that my engine was very quiet (I had to put my ear to my hood in order to hear it) and the fans were running non stop. The vehicle drives fine though

would you mind posting the code?

If not already done I STRONGLY recommend you get a FREE scan at one of the auto part stores, the key on off trick will NOT show all codes esp trans issues.

The fan issue alone suggests there are codes.

OK GREAT - A MISFIRE so common,
Plugs how does #5 plug look, what brand plug (it matters). Is #5 plug firing? A tricky ck but can be done.
Injector add a can of 'seafoam' or 'techron' a fuel detergent.
mechanical - compression check - lets look at other things above first

The fans being ON is better to hear than them being off, the engine must reach temp @220F to engage electric fans, also selecting AC or defrost will command fans, no overheating is positive. If you have an issue with temp gauge this would set a code and would have fans default to ON.

So what has you thinking a TCM issue? trans type AW4.
FYI the TCM will report codes just like above - you would first see a p0700.
does it shift into D and R?
Will it shift all gears - starts in 1 then 2 then 3 and settle into 4OD at speed ?
    describe concerns -

The TCM was just my assumption after seeing the first code. Everything shifts fine and no concerns regarding that since adjusting my throttle control cable.
Turns out the fans were just from defrost. Everything normal with those now that I've listened longer period of times.
My compression check tool wasn't working but I removed the coil cover and checked my spark plugs. I had a few with the nipple gone and the end of the contact point worn out as well. The brand was Bosch platinums. I replaced all 6 and added some techron injector cleaner to the gas tank. Seems to be running normal now and the check engine light is staying off.

Thank you for the help and guidance. I appreciate it

Bosch platinums not a recommended plug*, the jeep likes solid core as in copper core. the champions or if you do not want champion NGK or autolite.

just ask if you need anything else.
