    Hi Gang

I'm older (disabled) and do not drive 'Off Road'. I drive casually (never over 100 miles) per trip. I'm a Quadratec buyer trying to save some money for new shocks. I rarely pull an 1800 pound utility trailer (Hidden Hitch 300 Lb. Max Tongue). My local mechanic will be installing the shocks. Can someone give me an opinion about Maximum Duty Hydro? I noticed you have to specify a Left Height? Wondering if the install is more complicated than average? https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadratec/maximum-duty-nitro-80-shock-kit-97-06-jeep-wrangler-tj - OR - Should I just stick with Crown?

    Thank You

Welcome to the forum @ENIGMA-MACHINE .
Just my opinion. If you don't plan on offroading your TJ. And you don't have a lift installed. I'd go with a 0 -1.5 lift shock. I'd also look at the "soft ride" shocks if your looking to upgrade from your stock shock. If you'd like a more stiffer ride. Then the "gas charged" shocks are the way to go.
Also, theres no difference in the install with the various shocks. Most weekend DIYers can install shocks.

They really only need to know if you have had a lift installed, and if so how much. Otherwise the shocks might be too long or too short. I would go for a comfortable ride based upon your usage. JMHO The Quadratec shocks would be fine and then some.

Welcome @ENIGMA-MACHINE . Not sure whether the TJ is rated to tow 1800 lb ? IMO those shocks may be more shock than you need as a daily driver or a rarely tow rig. You got good information from JKBob+ HarleyM on selecting the right QT Nitro shocks.

Very friendly welcome - Thanx Guys - Perhaps its no secret the www.wranglerforum.com seems a bit crowded since it started. The FREE version doesn't seem to work either. I started out with a 1990 Wrangler 25 years ago and usually state my age and the fact I have no interest in 'Off Roading' nor modifications.

I read the reviews for the Hydro and agree it seems to have a stiffer rather than smoother ride. The price was attractive. But I think JKBob is correct, I'll also look at a smoother ride. I'm disabled so smooth is preferred. I missed the "gas charged" thing? So those Hydro's are Gas Charged? Sounds like I don't need that sort of thing ... I get a discount at Quadratec so I'll call them and see what else they have?

The Hidden Hitch model I have was designed for lighter loads and my trailer tongue weighed in at about 150 Lbs (within range), the last I checked. Its GVWR is 2500. I'll need it for short drives (under 30 miles), its temporary. I'm moving to Florida with the both the Jeep and Trailer mounted on a flatbed. Once I get there its a matter of 15-20 miles to settle in, then the trailer becomes storage again. I've read the technical limit is factory recommended safe tow at 2000 lbs.

Thanks again - I'll check out other shocks ...

I have always got the best ride with shocks that are on the expensive side. Bilstein is one brand to consider. I have been using the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks for many years, They are stiff, but still provide a good ride, it is a Jeep after all.

On a Jeep that wont see off road, I would choose a softer shock, with a progressive rate. The ones the OP linked are a quality option.
