    Hi all, first post here. I found this through a link on tacomaworld. I don't have a jeep wrangler yet but plan on getting one in the next couple years. I'm actually planning on buying one for my wife, she's always wanted one so I'm going to save up and buy one as a surprise for her birthday in 2 years. I know this is very early but I like to be informed and make good decisions, especially on something big like a vehicle.

    So my basic question is "what would you recommend"? It needs to be 4 doors and an auto and have a soft top. Other than that it's wide open. I'm decently good at working on vehicles, I've put new suspension on my tacoma and installed a kenwood stereo and speakers along with the basic oil change/spark plug/etc in the motor.

    I mainly want to know what years to look at and/or avoid and what some of the main trouble spots are I should look for.

    Thanks ahead of time for the help. All opinions and suggestions welcome.

    Welcome from Oklahoma.

    Given your 4 door and soft top requirement you are looking for a JK Unlimited or a JL Unlimited.
    JK = 2007-2018
    JL = 2018+

    There was an engine change in 2012, the previous engine (3.8 liter) was pretty notorious for burning oil. Many will say they haven't had a problem with theirs but I have seen many who did and I had a problem with it as well in my wifes Grand caravan (yes the 1st Gen JK had a minivan motor). Some 2012-2013 Wrangler 3.6s had a 10 year/150K mile extended warranty on the left side cylinder head.

    Welcome @kingston73 ...during your jeep search you will find that the TJ/JK/JL retain relatively high values that some may consider new especially since you're building a jeep fund. Your background with yotas should help too when it's time to unload more jeep bucks on more jeep accessories. Huge aftermarket supplies for untapped potential awaits you. The jeep wave is for real!
