Questions on a 2000 Sahara from a rookie

I know basically nothing about cars.
I recently purchased a 2000 Jeep Sahara. It’s not at all lifted and it kind of has some weak tires. I have talked to a couple of auto body shops about what lift kit I should get and they recommended I go on Jeep forums and learn more. So...here I am. I don’t want this to be a “monster truck”. I just want to lift it a few inches and get some thicker and new tires. Any recommendations on lift kits? Any other recommendations on things
I should consider as upgrades for my Jeep? I’m willing to spend $7-8k. Thanks! Pete
