    1992 jeep yj
    New 31x10.5, new skyjacker shocks, replaced soft top, new front seats, took back seats out of my wifes 04 eddie bauer explorer and they are now my back seats, new radiator, radiator hoses, new breaks, body work, primer paint, new front bumper, new 52" light bar, new cube led lights on bumper and at bottom of windshield, new stereo, sanded and painted parts of dash, painted the door panels. In the process of removing pads from the roll bars to paint. Installed a rebuilt transmission, installed new differential covers for the Dana 30, and 35. Rust inhibitor on bottom of vehicle.
    Hey everyone, been on here awhile, but just registered. There is a lot of great information on here, and I have came here and searched everytime I had a problem, and 90% of the time, I found what I was looking for, so you guys should give yourself a pat on the back, you have created a forum that has really helped a lot of people, myself included, save a lot of money, and aggravation trying to run down issues. So I want to say thanks to all that help!!! I have a 92 YJ, and really enjoy it, I have made some changes, most minor except the tranny, and have a lot left to go, going to put 2.5" lift, 33" tires, new back bumper, new tire carrier that holds two jerry cans, one with gas, and one with water. I really want to put a 6 cylinder, because even though I love the 2.5L engine, I want something a little stronger. I still have some armor to put on, the step rail mainly, and I need a rack to mount the roof top tent, I have already mounted the skyjacker shocks for the future lift, but still need to update the steering stabilizer. Not sure what to do with the back track bars, heard you can remove, and other people say don't remove, what is the consensus here? I have it about ready for paint, and seriously considering going the Raptor liner route, think it looks pretty good.     Welcome from Oklahoma.
    Ditch the track bars, on a leaf sprung vehicle they aren't as necessary. You may experience a slight increase in body roll.
    As far as swapping in a 6 cylinder, if you are going through that much trouble you may look at doing a v8 swap. It's pretty much the same amount of work.

    Thanks guys, yea the windshield is a sore spot to me, and I have thought about an 8 cylinder, what size would you recommend that would be the easiest, not that any of it will be easy. I was riding by a metal recycling place last week, and seen a YJ with weeds all grown up around it, perfect windshield, and nice hardtop, and it's a 92, but a Sahara edition, which I don't think will make a difference to those two items. Stopped in and the owner is the owner of the scrap yard....gave me a heck of a deal, $1,200.00 for the entire vehicle, but then he mentioned that the frame is bent....is that still a pretty good deal? all the body is in good shape other than some rust spots, it has newer tires and wheels, and the interior actually is not too bad.

    I see YJ hardtops going for $350-$600 on ebay so figure 1/3-1/2 of the $1200 is in the value of the hardtop.
    Are the rest of the parts usable for you? Maybe offer him $800 and haggle from there.

    As far as V8 goes, I am partial to GM. A carb engine would be easiest as it has minimal electronics to make it run, but are not as good on the trail or as fuel efficient if this is your daily driver.
    You would also need a transmission and transfercase, but you would need those with a I6 swap also.

    here is a couple more, the door panels I painted, and the seats I dyed red and black, and also what the jeep looked like when I bought it.

    Has anyone taken the pads off of the roll bars and painted them or had them powder coated? If so how did they look? Thinking about doing that next

    Like padded bras I like the look but the roll bar pads serve a purpose to keep the passengers from getting knocked unconscious off road. Rattle can would be much less expense and easier than disassembling then PC. Like the matching repurposed Milwaukee tool case as I plan on dremeling out the inner sections to make some use of them. How ez are the custom rear bucket seats to remove and what vehicle did they come from?

    The seats are out of a 04 Eddie bauer Ford explorer's back seat, it's one full size seat and then the smaller middle seat. I had to build a custom bracket, anchor it with 1/2" bolts and nuts, then had my uncle weld it, so not bad at all, took me probably 4 hours total, and they fit really nice, and everyone who has sat in them said it's the most comfortable ever in the back seat of a jeep, which we all know that's not saying much if you have rode in that crappy bench seat. They also fold down so I can put my cover on....

    The tool bag holds all of my winch supplies, like d-ring, snatch block, tree saver, cause that stuff takes up a lot of room....
