Struggling to remove compressor due to unknown obstruction

    Hey everyone could really use some help. I have a 2012 grand Cherokee just about got the compressor out and then it was getting hung up on something. Could find anything online about someone that’s done it allready. I’m not even sure exactly what part it is it’s the box with all the brake lines connected to it. Abs control? Either way I can’t figure out how to unbolt it to get it to move alittle so that I can get the compressor out. There are two bolts on the bottom I think I’ll try to add a picture.     Procedures from Alldata.... (don't seem to mention the issue you are having) :notsure:

    1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
    2. Remove the engine trim cover.
    3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system See: Service and Repair\Refrigerant System Recovery.
    4. Remove the air cleaner housing See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Engine\Air Cleaner Housing\Service and Repair\Air Cleaner Body - Removal.
    5. Remove the accessory drive belt See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Engine\Drive Belt\Service and Repair\Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.
    6. Remove the nuts (1 and 3) that secure the A/C suction line (2) and A/C discharge line (3) to the A/C compressor.
    7. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the seals.
    8. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.

    1. Disconnect the engine wire harness from the A/C compressor (2).
    2. Remove the nut (5) and position the heater tube and bracket (4) out of the way.
    3. Support the A/C compressor and remove the stud (3) and the three bolts (1).
    4. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.

    Thanks prerunner!!. The problem is mine has 2 long threads on the bottom 2 which the whole unit has to be slide off of. Of course they couldn’t have just put 4 bolts!! Is there any way to unscrew those threads??4D07E75F-4D63-4185-B0A5-6438BE20FBE3.jpg

    I got two bolts out that connect that silver metal box to the black bracket but it’s still not moving and can’t find any others besides those 2 round things holding the black bracket to the frame

    Welcome @superphunk ...if you have to move the ABS control module be careful with those brake lines otherwise you will have another big problem. The two studs on the bottom press fit with rubber bushings and support the ABS control module.

    I just need the whole unit 2 shift just an inch so I can slide the compressor off. How hard is it to get those 2 pressed studs out?

    Too bad you need the one inch but based off the pics some WD40 should make it lift off easier. Make sure all the bolts are removed then pry it up gently but watch out for the hard lines! Would raising the motor up a bit give you the inch you need?

    So I was able to wiggle the compressor pully behind the abs unit and there’s just no fucking room there. Fuck you jeep!!! I’m almost positive the only way it would clear the way it’s setup would be to pull the entire motor take off the ac and reinstall and put the motor back in.... seriously???? I think my only option now is to cut those 2 long threads and to just use the top 2 bolts until I can get those other long threads removed.

    Seems cutting the bolts make sense if it helps to get the compressor out. Make sure the bolts are available for purchase. Some vehicles like BMW use one-time torqued bolts

    ABS Hydraulic Unit

    REMOVAL


    1. Remove and isolate the negative battery cable from the battery.
    2. Install prop rod on the brake pedal to keep pressure on the brake system. Holding the pedal in this position will isolate the master cylinder from the hydraulic brake system and will not allow brake fluid to drain out of the brake fluid reservoir while the brake lines are open. This will allow you to bleed out the area of repair instead of the entire system.
    3. Siphon the master cylinder reservoir.
    4. Remove the air cleaner body.

    NOTE: Mark the brake lines locations before removing to assist in proper installation.
    1. Remove the primary and secondary brake tubes (2) at the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (1).
    2. Remove the chassis lines (4) at the HCU (1).
    3. Disconnect the Antilock Brake System (ABS) module electrical connector (3).
    4. Remove the Integrated Control Unit (ICU) (1) with the bracket (5) from the vehicle by firmly lifting the assembly from the push mount pins.

    CAUTION: When removing the ABS module from the HCU, be sure to completely separate the two components approximately 38 mm (1.5 in.) straight out before moving module to the side. Otherwise, damage to the pressure sensor or Pump Motor connection may result requiring HCU replacement. Do not to touch the sensor terminals on the module side or the contact pads on the HCU side as this may result in contamination and issues in the future.
    NOTE:
    If replacing the ICU (HCU and ABS module together) then step 9 is not necessary.
    1. If necessary, remove the four ABS module screws (2) securing the module (1) to the HCU and firmly pull straight apart.
    2. Remove and transfer the bracket as necessary.

    Looking at your picture and the AC compressor removal procedures I posted it appears you need to remove the two studs.
