for the past couple of months my TJ has been squeaking when driving at low speeds and over small bumps. It also does it when I turn the wheel while stationary. So I checked all the steering parts and saw that the steering shaft is rubbing up against the inside of the wheel well. I have no idea what to do to make it not rub against it or to just make it stop squeaking. I’ve already tried rubbing grease over the area that’s rubbing, but it didn’t seem to do anything.

Barring an underlying suspension issue some wheel spacers could be used to move the tires away from that contact point. Grease won't be the answer nor dealing with the squeak as tire damage is imminent.

It has nothing to do with the tires. The steering shaft, that you can see in the engine bay under the power steering pump, is rubbing against the inside of the wheel well when I turn.

Oops thought I just saw wheels rubbing...so disregard. Are the wheel wells bowed or deformed? Any excessive play in the steering?

If your wheels are rubbing when in the full turn position, there is an adjustment screw to limit the amount that you can turn, at least they used to make them that way. There should be a hammer in your toolbox, this or a prybar could move the fender away from the wheel.

Aggrex, for the most part, there is no play in the steering. Although, it does have a slight wobble at certain turns (might just be the road) and once every couple months it makes a very noticeable wobble at one of those same turns. A few months ago I had some death wobble but after a new wheel bearing, u joints, and a tie rod end, it was pretty much gone.

I am experiencing the annoying squeaky sound. Did you ever get to get it fixed and how was it done?
