    Hi guys,

I bought the cj 7 for about 2 weeks and today the starter died, so the question is: do I order a standard starter for 1983 CJ 7 or do I need something different because my 1983 CJ 7 original engine was replaced with a Jaspers 4.2 L Inline 6 258 engine? Thanks much in advance.

Jasper re manufactured the engine but not the starter. Take off the starter and take to the auto parts store for direct replacement. They can bench test the starter too.

You should have at least a #4 wire going to the starter relay from the battery and from the relay to the starter. Attaching another same size wire from the starter mounting bolt to the battery negative will eliminate any wiring problems and insure a full load to the starter. I have seen some pretty lousy battery terminal connections though. The starter sucks the most juice than any other electrical circut on the CJ, but I think your starter was shot anyway.

When Jasper remaned the motor. They gave it a number. There should be a tag somewhere with that number. Best if your have paperwork with that sticker on it. .Contact them. Ask them what motor it is. They can tell you you, based on that remaned number. Excatly what motor it is. And what starter is correct replacement. And any other part, that is apart of their remanufactured process.
