I am wireing my jeep xj fan, I have a wire too the battery with a blade fuse to the toggle in the cab, then I spliced into the fan power (leaving it still wired to the stock system) and running into the cab too the toggle.... the question is do I need a relay between the cable I'm running from fan too toggle and why do I need one? Thank you

Slow down - time to think
I am confused AND its early 1st coffee - Sounds wrong on first reading, you want to power the fan @40amp thru a toggle switch in dash? And you are debating using a relay?

Welcome @Valkyriessong ...those fans could be drawing over 20 amps so relays should be part of the wiring diagram.

@Valkyriessong . Try to ignore the shinanagins above. :rofl:But yes. You should wire a relay close to the battery.
