93 ZJ 5.2 Rear Main Seal Replacement

I have a oil pan leak and the leak is coming from the rear of the pan. How do I replace it and what tools will I need ?

 

how much oil are you using.... if minimal loss ie a few drops lets back burner the rear main idea for now, you have alot going on.

Might want to doulbe check PCV system confirm it has vacuum and fresh air to keep crankcase pressure down... Check the valve cover gaskets so often they are the source of leak -

 

Yes, sometimes oil can run out from a valve cover gasket or seal and head for the lowest point before it hits the floor.

 

Have you considered getting a new jeep yet?? Lol

@TinyInkognegroT it really seems like you are doing everything you can to keep your rig from taking the plunge... which is admirable. But is it really worth all the trouble and money to barely get by till you find another issue?? Some vehicles just aren't gonna make it. My neighbor for instance.. has a 99 XJ with a blown motor but he keeps dumping money into to keep it running. I've told him numerous times it's not worth the time and money. I'm all for saving a jeep but theres gotta be an end to the misery lol

 

I really can't get another vehicle. I support myself and without this vehicle I'm up s*** creek without a paddle. It's my lifeline so I have to work on it and I don't mind dumping money into it because I only paid $700 for it.

 

It's a pretty good puddle but not too big but not too little. I seen something about the fuel pressure sensor or something that has to do with the oil that sits on the driver side of the distributor. They say they crack and people misdiagnosed it for a rear main seal leak, but I think I looked at it when I bought the Jeep but I'll take another look just to be sure

 

@TinyInkognegroT ...since your spending a bunch of time under the jeep make sure to use jack stands and throw a spare under there too

 

One day you will reflect upon this Jeep as you've done a lot of work and learned a bunch. The JGC has multiple ongoing issues and hopefully they will be resolved soon.

@Awrench The oil pressure stays at 55-60, sometimes even on idle. The dip stick shows it's over filled too

Here it is in idle, I just started it leaving from work...

 

When I had a small leak on the rms on my CJ. I was not able to replace the upper half of the seal without lowering the crank. So I said the hell with it and just installed the lower half. That was all that it need to prevent any leaking, although that was about 20 years ago and now it does have a minor leak again.
